5,600 m Mining Staff Container Dormitory, Xinjiang

The project sits on the northwest side of the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau in an extreme environment of high altitude (above 5,300 m), low oxygen (about 50% of that on the plains), extreme cold (−30°C), and strong winds. We adopted a customized plateau camp solution. With personnel survival and operational efficiency as the first priority, the camp was designed as an integrated facility combining office, residence, and living functions.

The overall layout uses a courtyard (“hui-shaped”) form assembled from 113 modular container houses; the special layout reduces wind, sand, and external disturbance.

Because of low oxygen at high altitude, rooms are equipped with diffused oxygen supply. Gaps in the units and connections between linked units were sealed to reduce heat loss inside the modular houses.
