Sealing Rain Leaks in Container Houses

Admin September 13, 2026

Rain leaks in container houses can be addressed through short-term repairs, long-term maintenance, and welding repairs.

Short-term repairs: When sealing and rain-leak issues appear in a container house, temporary patching measures can be applied first. For smaller leak points, waterproof tape or liquid leak sealant can be used. Press waterproof tape firmly over the leak to ensure full coverage of holes and cracks, which effectively stops rainwater from seeping in. Liquid leak sealant can be applied to cracks and, once dry, forms a waterproof layer. Sealant can also be applied evenly over the leak area to cover holes and cracks, providing waterproofing after it fully dries. Container leak-repair tape is another good option—apply it over the leak and ensure complete coverage. These short-term repair methods are simple and can quickly stop leaks, but may not last long and are best for emergency situations.

Long-term maintenance: Regular inspections are key to preventing leaks. Periodically check the waterproofing layer and drainage system of foldable container houses to ensure they work properly. Conduct a full inspection of the sealing system every 2 years, and promptly replace aged sealant, waterproof coatings, and similar components. Prefer integrated container house designs with drainage gutters, which effectively channel rainwater away and reduce water buildup that damages the structure. During design and construction, additional waterproofing measures can be taken—such as adding waterproof membranes or coatings on the roof and walls to improve waterproof performance, and adding sealing strips, sealing adhesive, and other sealing materials at joints to improve sealing results.

Welding repairs: If the leak is severe, with larger holes and cracks that short-term repairs cannot adequately address, welding repair may be considered. First clean the metal sheet at the hole to ensure the surface is free of debris, then use appropriate welding equipment for the repair. Welding repair can provide lasting, reliable waterproofing, but requires professional skills and equipment. Safety must be observed during the process to avoid other problems caused by improper operation.
