Prefabricated Housing in Xiangtan City

Prefabricated housing in Xiangtan City mainly includes two types: large-panel houses and prefabricated buildings, each with distinct characteristics and different development situations.

Large-Panel Houses

Large-panel houses are constructed using prefabricated reinforced concrete large-panel structures. In the 1970s and 1980s, China built this type of housing on a large scale to address housing shortages. Their advantages lie in fast construction speed and low cost. However, due to the limitations of construction technology and materials at that time, large-panel houses have some subsequent issues, such as potential wall cracking and poor thermal insulation. In Xiangtan City, some large-panel housing communities have poor living environments due to long-term disrepair. Nevertheless, in recent years, Xiangtan City has launched relevant renovation projects to reinforce large-panel houses, install elevators, and improve supporting facilities to enhance residents' living conditions.

Prefabricated Buildings

Prefabricated buildings transfer a large amount of on-site work in traditional construction methods to factories through industrial production, modular assembly, and green technologies. Building components and accessories, such as floor slabs, wall panels, stairs, and balconies, are processed and manufactured in factories and then transported to construction sites for on-site assembly and installation using reliable connection methods. This construction method helps save resources and energy, reduce construction pollution, and improve labor productivity and quality and safety levels.

The development of prefabricated buildings in Xiangtan City is at the forefront of the province. On August 16, 2022, the "Three-Year Action Plan for the Development and Enhancement of Green Construction of Prefabricated Buildings in Xiangtan City" was issued, aiming at the modern development direction of the construction industry, namely the industrialization, greening, and intelligence of prefabricated buildings, and striving to build a green building materials prefabricated building and construction industry. From January to July this year, the province's prefabricated buildings achieved an output value of 194.08 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 97.6%, with Xiangtan, Changsha, and Zhuzhou ranking among the top three in terms of proportion in the province.
