Wood Prefabricated House

Admin September 17, 2026

A wood prefabricated house is a residential form constructed using wood as the primary building material, combining factory-prefabricated components with on-site assembly. It offers advantages such as efficiency, environmental friendliness, and superior performance.

Construction Efficiency and Timeline

The construction period for wood prefabricated houses is significantly shorter than that of traditional buildings, typically lasting 2-3 months, which is about 50% less than conventional construction. In some cases, the main structure can be assembled within three days. This efficiency stems from the standardized production of factory-prefabricated components and the “building block”-style assembly on-site, reducing the complexity and time required for on-site construction.

Structural and Performance Advantages

  1. Seismic Performance: The building structure is divided into light and heavy types, utilizing mortise-and-tenon joints or beam-column structures. It meets seismic resistance standards of up to magnitude 8, making it suitable for earthquake-prone regions.
  2. Thermal Insulation and Humidity Regulation: The wall insulation efficiency is three times that of brick-and-concrete structures. The wood moisture content is controlled below 19%, effectively regulating indoor humidity while providing sound insulation properties.
  3. Durability: Through processes such as preservative impregnation and fire-retardant coating carbonization layer treatment, the service life can exceed 70 years (with some standard design service lives of 50 years), far surpassing that of ordinary wooden structures.

Material and Process Characteristics

Selected防腐木 (preservative-treated wood) such as Scots pine and Douglas fir are used, with components precisely processed in factories and then transported to the site for assembly. The lightweight frame structure combines dimensional lumber with cladding to form a load-bearing system, supporting large-span column-free designs and high space utilization. This process is similar to “building blocks,” making construction simple and precision-controllable.

Economic Efficiency and Application Scenarios

The cost ranges from 2,000 to 8,000 yuan per square meter, with the cost of a normally sized residential house around 20,000 US dollars, primarily saving on labor costs. Its application scenarios are wide-ranging, covering homestays, vacation camps, themed amusement facilities, and eco-tourism real estate, especially suitable for projects pursuing rapid construction and environmental protection concepts.

Environmental Protection and Policy Support

Wood has the functions of regulating indoor humidity, antibacterial properties, and balancing psychological emotions. Fully wooden structures have lower pollution, aligning with green building trends. Since 2011, China has implemented national standards such as the “Code for Construction Quality Acceptance of Wood Structure Engineering,” providing policy support for the development of wood structure buildings and promoting their popularity and application in the country.
