Prefabricated Houses in Pingyu

Admin September 17, 2026

Currently, no direct detailed information on prefabricated houses in Pingyu County has been found, but an introduction can be made by combining local rural dilapidated house renovation policies and the characteristics of prefabricated houses.

The rural dilapidated house renovation construction plan in Pingyu County mainly focuses on self-construction by farmers. If self-construction is truly difficult and farmers are willing to have unified construction, the township governments in their jurisdictions will assist farmers in selecting qualified construction teams for unified construction. However, it is not clear whether the houses built uniformly adopt the prefabricated method.

There are many differences between prefabricated houses and traditional brick-and-mortar houses:

  • Construction speed: Prefabricated houses have a significant advantage in construction speed. Taking a three-story rural residential building of 150 square meters as an example, using the prefabricated method, the main structure can be completed in five days, and fine decoration can be delivered within two months; while traditional brick-and-mortar houses require at least 6 - 8 months to complete construction.
  • Quality stability: Prefabricated houses have a high degree of quality standardization, with errors measured in millimeters. Their production process takes place in factories and is subject to a strict quality control system; the quality of traditional brick-and-mortar houses largely depends on the skills of the construction workers. Different workers have varying levels of construction skills, which may lead to inconsistent house quality.
  • Seismic performance: Prefabricated houses can have a seismic fortification intensity of up to eight degrees. The seismic performance of steel-structure prefabricated houses is more than 50% higher than that of brick-and-mortar structures. In the event of natural disasters such as earthquakes, they can provide more reliable safety protection for occupants.
  • Degree of personalization: The layout of prefabricated houses is relatively fixed, and it is difficult to make adjustments according to changes in life after moving in. The water and electricity pipelines are fixedly arranged when leaving the factory, and it is difficult to modify the circuits or add/remove points later; traditional brick-and-mortar houses can be flexibly modified according to the needs of the occupants to meet diverse living requirements.
  • Cost: The initial construction cost of prefabricated houses is 10% to 30% higher than that of brick-and-mortar houses. However, from the perspective of the whole life cycle cost, due to factors such as the fast construction speed, stable quality, and low maintenance cost of prefabricated houses, their whole life cycle cost may be lower.
