Recommendation of Insulation Materials for Prefabricated Houses

Admin September 18, 2026

The following types of insulation materials for prefabricated houses are recommended, and you can choose according to specific needs:

Inorganic Insulation Materials

Rock Wool: An A1-grade non-combustible material, it is highly resistant to high temperatures (above 600℃), and has sound-absorbing and corrosion-resistant properties. Its thermal conductivity ranges from 0.035 to 0.045 W/(m·K), and it is relatively inexpensive. It is suitable for external wall insulation, curtain wall linings, roofs, and equipment pipeline insulation, especially for scenarios with high fire safety requirements. Glass Wool: Lightweight and chemically stable, it offers excellent sound absorption and thermal insulation. It has an A-grade fire rating, but its temperature resistance is lower than that of rock wool (thermal conductivity: 0.039 to 0.045 W/(m·K)). It is commonly used for interior walls, ceilings, air conditioning ducts, and steel structure factory insulation. Foam Glass: Non-combustible, waterproof, corrosion-resistant, and frost-resistant, it maintains its shape over long-term use. However, it is brittle, expensive, and difficult to cut. It is suitable for basements, cold storage facilities, chemical pipelines, and high-humidity corrosive environments.

Organic Insulation Materials

EPS Molded Polystyrene Board (White Foam): Lightweight, low-cost, and easy to cut, it offers good thermal insulation (thermal conductivity: 0.038 to 0.041 W/(m·K)). However, it is flammable (must meet B1-grade flame retardancy standards) and has low strength. It is suitable for exterior walls of multi-story residential buildings, roofs, and underfloor heating insulation layers. XPS Extruded Polystyrene Board (Blue/Pink Board): Its closed-cell structure provides high strength, compressive resistance, and extremely low water absorption. It has excellent aging resistance (thermal conductivity: 0.028 to 0.033 W/(m·K)), but poor air permeability and a tendency to warp. It is commonly used for roofs, basement ceilings, cold storage facilities, and interior wall insulation. Polyurethane Rigid Foam PU/PIR: Among organic materials, it offers the best thermal insulation performance (thermal conductivity: 0.022 to 0.028 W/(m·K)). It combines waterproofing and insulation functions, can be seamlessly sprayed, and has high strength. However, it is expensive and requires professional installation. It is suitable for pitched roofs, irregular roofs, and cold storage pipeline insulation.

New High-Efficiency Insulation Materials

Aerogel Felt/Board: With extremely low thermal conductivity (0.012 to 0.020 W/(m·K)), it is A2-grade non-combustible and hydrophobic. Its ultra-thin design saves space, but it is expensive and brittle. It is suitable for high-end energy-efficient buildings, industrial high-temperature pipelines, and confined space insulation. Vacuum Insulation Panel (VIP): Currently, it has the lowest thermal conductivity (≈0.008 W/(m·K)). A 20mm thickness can replace 100mm of rock wool, but it cannot be cut, is vulnerable to punctures, and is extremely costly. It is suitable for passive houses, high-end residential buildings, and cold chain logistics where space is limited.

Other Materials

Insulation Bricks: With high thermal resistance and low thermal conductivity, they offer excellent compressive strength and durability. They are easy to install and can significantly improve building insulation performance while reducing energy consumption. Silicate Materials: Environmentally friendly insulation materials, they offer good thermal insulation performance, along with fire resistance, lightweight properties, chemical stability, and no pollution. They are suitable for buildings with high environmental requirements.
