The Bathroom in Howl's Moving Castle

The bathroom (which can be understood as a toilet-related area) in Howl's Moving Castle presents a unique and messy magical style scene.

Overall Environment and Item Arrangement

The walls, toilet, sink, and other areas of Howl's bathroom are covered with colorful pigments, which are most likely the magical potions Howl uses to dye his hair. A roller is placed on the sink counter, presumably a tool for curling hair for dyeing. On the shelf, there are jars and kraft paper bags filled with magical potions. The toilet is covered in dye. There are a few books on the stool next to it. A red bottle is lying on the floor, and a blue bottle is on the stool. The liquids in these bottles are probably also magical potions for Howl's hair dyeing. There is also a kraft paper bag on the stool, which is guessed to be snacks.

Decorative Details

Howl pursues refinement, which is also reflected even in an area like the bathroom. The toilet has a floral pattern. However, a cloth is wrapped around the water pipe, and water is continuously seeping out, indicating that this section of the pipe may be broken. This corresponds with the overall refined yet messy style, adding a sense of fantasy and dilapidation to the bathroom.

Sophie's Cleaning

When Sophie came to the second floor to clean the rooms, the first door she pushed open was Howl's bathroom. Judging from the overall messiness of the castle, Howl's bathroom must have been extremely disorganized. Sophie probably spent a lot of time cleaning this bathroom, which also reflects the degree of messiness and the disorganized arrangement of items in the bathroom from the side.

Real-life Imitation Attempts

Someone once attempted to transform a toilet into a magical bathroom like the one in Howl's Moving Castle. They replaced the old, slightly magical showerhead with a luxurious gold one and also carried out operations such as cleaning hooks and clutter and scrubbing, trying to restore the unique and magical atmosphere of the bathroom scene in the movie. This also shows that the unique style of Howl's bathroom in the movie has left a deep impression on the audience and inspired people's interest in imitation.
