How to Make an Outdoor Portable Toilet

Admin September 28, 2026

There are mainly two methods for making an outdoor portable toilet: using a water storage tank and a pallet, and using a water storage bucket. Details are as follows:

Making with a Water Storage Tank and a Pallet

  • Materials Preparation: Water storage tank (can be recycled from a garbage station), plastic pallet, universal wheels, angle grinder, self-tapping screws, toilet, water pipes, faucets, stainless steel basins, wooden boards, hinges, etc.
  • Production Steps:
    • Install Universal Wheels and Place the Water Storage Tank: Fix universal wheels at the four corners of the bottom of the pallet, and then place the water storage tank on the pallet. The universal wheels facilitate moving the toilet to different outdoor locations as needed.
    • Process the Water Storage Tank: Use an angle grinder to cut an opening at the top of the water storage tank. Stack two tank bodies and fix them with self-tapping screws to increase the capacity and stability of the water storage tank.
    • Create an Entrance and Install Drainage Facilities: Cut a rectangular entrance 180 centimeters high and 50 centimeters wide on the tank body for easy access. Drill holes in the interior floor and install drainage elbows and water pipes to ensure smooth sewage discharge.
    • Install Sanitary Facilities: Fix the toilet and seal it with glue to prevent sewage leakage. Install a water tank, showerhead, faucet, and washbasin (made from a stainless steel basin) to meet basic washing needs.
    • Make the Door: Use wooden boards and hinges to make the door and install a door handle to ensure easy opening and closing and good sealing.

Making with a Water Storage Bucket

  • Materials Preparation: Water storage bucket, wooden boards, universal wheels, wooden strips, self-tapping screws, angle grinder, toilet, drainage pipes, foam strips, honeycomb wooden boards, etc.
  • Production Steps:
    • Process the Water Storage Bucket and Wooden Boards: Split the water storage bucket in half and fix universal wheels at the four corners of the wooden boards to prepare for subsequent movement and construction.
    • Increase the Bucket Height and Build the Door Frame: Use wooden strips and self-tapping screws to increase the height of the bucket. Cut an entrance on the side and install foam strips to build the door frame, providing some sealing and cushioning effects.
    • Build the Walls and Roof: Insert plastic soft boards to form the walls. Use the upper part of the bucket as the roof and apply waterproof paint for beautification, ensuring privacy and improving aesthetics.
    • Install Drainage and Water Inlet Facilities: Drill holes at the bottom of the bucket and install drainage pipes to form floor drains. Drill holes on the side to connect water inlet pipes and showerheads for convenient sewage discharge and fresh water introduction.
    • Place the Toilet and Make the Door: Place the toilet and fix the water tank. Use foam strips to拼接 (assemble) honeycomb wooden boards to make the door, completing the construction of the entire portable toilet.
