Home Portable Toilet Design
Admin October 13, 2026
The design of home portable toilets can refer to the following two specific plans, combining water storage containers and mobile structures to achieve functionality and portability:

Plan 1: Modular Design Based on Water Storage Barrels
Main Structure
- Water Storage Barrel Modification: Select a corrosion-resistant plastic water storage barrel and split it in half along the longitudinal centerline. The lower half serves as the base container, while the upper half, after cutting, serves as the roof. A doorway is opened on the side of the barrel, with sponge strips pasted on both sides to form a door frame. A transparent plastic soft panel is embedded to create an openable wall, ensuring privacy while facilitating observation of the interior.
- Mobility and Support: Fix universal wheels at the four corners of a wooden board and secure the board to the top of the barrel using wooden strips and self-tapping screws, forming a mobile base. The height of the wooden strips should be adjusted according to the height of the toilet to ensure comfort during use. A drainage pipe is installed through a hole at the bottom of the barrel, forming a floor drain structure connected to an external sewage barrel.
Functional Module Integration
- Water Storage and Drainage: Open holes on the side and bottom of the barrel and install direct connectors. A small plastic bucket is placed inside the barrel as a water storage device for collecting handwashing or toilet flushing water. The drainage pipe is connected to the toilet tank through a tee joint for recycling.
- Bathing and Lighting: Bend a water pipe into a simple bath heater frame and fix it below the roof. Install a tee joint below the inlet pipe, with one route connected to a showerhead and the other extending to the doorway as the inlet pipe for a handwashing basin. A lightweight plastic basin can be selected as the handwashing basin and fixed at the opening of the door.
- Toilet Installation: Select a lightweight toilet and fix it at a designated position inside the barrel using glass glue. The toilet tank is connected to the water storage device through a hose. The end of the drainage pipe is connected to the sewage barrel for regular cleaning.
Detail Optimization
- Roof and Door: The upper half of the barrel's roof is painted with white waterproof paint to enhance aesthetics. The door is made by splicing foam strips with discarded honeycomb wooden boards, which is lightweight and heat-insulating.
- Sealing and Odor Prevention: The sponge strips on the door frame and the plastic soft panel should fit tightly to reduce odor leakage. A U-shaped bend can be installed on the toilet drainage pipe to prevent backflow of odors.
Plan 2: Pallet-Based Design Based on Water Storage Tanks
Basic Structure
- Pallet and Mobility: Select a high-strength plastic or metal pallet as the base and fix universal wheels at the four corners to ensure load-bearing capacity and stability. The surface of the pallet is reserved with installation holes for equipment such as water storage tanks and toilets.
- Water Storage Tank Integration: Fix a small water storage tank on one side of the pallet and connect it to the toilet tank and handwashing basin through pipes. A solar panel can be installed on the top of the tank (if designed as a solar type) to supply power for lighting or simple heating equipment.
Functional Expansion
- Modular Combination: The pallet can be designed as a detachable structure for easy transportation and assembly. Modules such as toilets and handwashing basins are fixed using buckles or bolts, allowing users to adjust the layout according to their needs.
- Sewage Treatment: The sewage pipe is connected to a mobile septic tank or directly to the municipal sewage system to adapt to different usage scenarios.
Both plans focus on low cost and easy operation, suitable for temporary home use or outdoor scenarios. When designing, special attention should be paid to the corrosion resistance of materials, the sealing of pipes, and the stability of mobility to ensure safety and hygiene.
