Rats on the Roof of a Container Board House

Admin September 17, 2026

Rats on the roof of a container board house can be comprehensively addressed through measures such as driving them away and killing them, blocking their entry paths, environmental management, and supplementary repellent methods.

I. Quick Driving Away and Killing

Physical tools are an effective means of directly reducing rat infestations. Glue traps should be selected for their strong adhesiveness and large surface area. Multiple traps can be pieced together to cover a larger area, with high-protein foods like peanut butter and sausage crumbs placed in the center as bait to increase the capture rate. Mouse traps should be placed along the rats' activity paths, such as below kitchen exhaust ducts and around the gaps between bathroom drainage pipes and walls, and the same bait should be used to attract rats into the traps. If rats are active in the ceiling void, multiple glue traps can be placed directly on the ceiling to cover their activity range.

II. Thoroughly Blocking Entry Paths

Rats usually enter indoors through roof gaps, vents, pipe connections, etc. These areas need to be carefully inspected, and gaps should be sealed with materials such as steel wire mesh, cement, wooden boards, or stainless steel wire balls + expanding foam. For holes around pipes, it is recommended to first stuff them tightly with stainless steel wire balls or rat-proof mesh, and then cover them with cement or expanding foam for reinforcement to prevent rats from gnawing and re-entering. For tiled roofs, metal rat-proof plates can be installed along the ridge to form a physical barrier.

III. Environmental Management and Long-term Prevention

Maintaining a clean environment is key to cutting off rat infestations. Immediately clean up food residues and debris on the roof and surrounding areas to avoid providing food sources for rats. Surrounding branches should be trimmed to at least 2 meters away from the roof to prevent rats from climbing onto the roof via the branches. Garbage bins should be replaced with lockable pedal-operated models, and kitchen waste should be sealed and disposed of within 8 hours to reduce odors that attract rats.

IV. Supplementary Repellent Measures

Ultrasonic rat repellents can emit sound waves at specific frequencies to interfere with the rats' living habits and force them to leave the roof. For quick results, cotton balls soaked in essential balm or camphor ball solution can be placed in the corners of the roof; or plants that rats dislike, such as mint and lavender, can be placed to repel them using their odors. For short-term repellent, mint brain solvent can be selected. Soak cotton balls in it and stuff them into suspected rat paths. The strong odor can maintain a repellent effect for 15 days.
