Commode Chair Portable Toilet

Admin September 27, 2026

Commode chair portable toilets are toilet aids designed for individuals with mobility impairments and elderly people. They are commonly used tools in home care and institutional care. The following provides an introduction from four aspects: product types, applicable scenarios, design features, and standard specifications.

Diverse Product Types
Commode chair portable toilets come in various types to meet different needs. Bedpan-style models usually have a fixed structure and are equipped with a detachable bedpan for easy cleaning. Foldable-style models use lightweight materials and can be folded into a compact size, making them suitable for environments with limited space, such as being placed beside the bed at night. Mobile-wheel-style models are equipped with universal wheels at the bottom, allowing flexible movement to locations like the bathroom and living room. Some models also come with brake devices to enhance stability. For example, a commode chair for the elderly with an enlarged and thickened bucket body features a widened chassis design to effectively prevent tipping over, and an embedded small basin for easy cleaning, making it suitable for households with elderly people or pregnant women. A mobile toilet stool with a double-lid design reduces odor diffusion through a sealed lid and improves user comfort with an ergonomic curved seat surface, making it suitable for pregnant women and children as well.

Wide Range of Applicable Scenarios
Their application scenarios cover both home and institutional care settings. In home scenarios, foldable commode chairs can be placed beside the bed, facilitating nighttime toilet use for the elderly and reducing the risk of falls. Mobile-wheel-style products can temporarily replace fixed toilets in the bathroom, adapting to living environments during renovations or those without independent bathrooms. In institutional scenarios, such as nursing homes and rehabilitation centers, the type of product needs to be selected according to the user's mobility. For example, disabled elderly people may require reinforced models equipped with safety belts, handrails, and other auxiliary devices.

Design Emphasizing Safety and Hygiene
Product design must comply with the standard GB/T 24434 - 2025 Commode Chairs, which will be implemented on January 1, 2026. This standard clearly requires the use of harmless materials (such as environmentally friendly plastics and stainless steel) to avoid the release of heavy metals or harmful substances. It also emphasizes enhancing safety performance, including anti-slip foot pads, load-bearing tests (usually requiring a load capacity of ≥100 kg), and rounded edge treatments. In terms of barrier-free design, it is necessary to consider the transfer needs of wheelchair users, such as adjustable seat heights and detachable handrails. For example, some products provide back support and reduce fatigue from prolonged sitting by raising the backrest and handrails.

Standard Specifications Ensure Quality
As an industry mandatory standard, GB/T 24434 - 2025 sets specific requirements for the size, structure, and performance of commode chairs. For example, the seat width must be ≥350 mm to accommodate different body types; the bedpan capacity must be ≥5 L to reduce the frequency of cleaning; and the brake device of mobile-wheel-style products must remain stable when tilted at 5°. The implementation of this standard will promote the standardized development of the industry and improve product quality and user safety.
