Commercial Concrete Prefabrication for Building Exterior Walls

Admin September 18, 2026

Commercial concrete prefabrication for building exterior walls is an industrialized construction method for building exterior walls, with prefabricated concrete wall panels as the core components. It achieves efficient and low-cost exterior wall solutions through standardized production and assembly-based construction.

1. Types and Characteristics of Prefabricated Concrete Wall Panels

Prefabricated concrete wall panels are mainly divided into two categories: PC wall panels (such as single-sided composite, double-sided composite, and fully prefabricated types) and industrialized finished wall panels. PC wall panels achieve integration of structural, insulation, and decorative functions through partial or complete prefabrication. For example, double-sided composite wall panels consist of inner and outer prefabricated concrete layers with an intermediate insulation layer, requiring only on-site pouring of connection nodes during construction. Fully prefabricated wall panels are directly installed as complete components, suitable for projects with high construction speed requirements. Industrialized finished wall panels further integrate windows, doors, and decorative finishes, achieving a “move-in ready” exterior wall delivery standard.

2. Production Process

The production process centers on mold forming, with the following steps:

  1. Mold Preparation: Lay a steel reinforcement cage (including top, bottom, and wire mesh reinforcement) inside the mold, secure large foam letters (for reserving pipeline holes), and apply a release agent.
  2. Concrete Pouring: Pour high-strength concrete (made from limestone and mineral admixtures) into the mold, compact it in layers using vibration, and lay foam insulation material in the middle as the insulation layer.
  3. Hardening and Demolding: After the concrete has set and hardened, sandblast the surface, cut the reserved holes, and finally demold to form standard wall panels.
  4. Digital Management: Simulate the production and installation process of wall panels using BIM technology, utilize Trimble tools for remote collaboration, and optimize material usage and construction sequence.

3. Application Advantages and Development Trends

Prefabricated concrete wall panels have become the mainstream choice due to their low cost and superior performance: Their industrialized production reduces on-site wet work, shortening the construction period by more than 30%. Material performance is enhanced through high-performance concrete (such as strengths above C60) and fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites, resulting in significantly better crack resistance and durability compared to traditional cast-in-place walls. It is predicted that the market size for prefabricated concrete structures will reach 1.1 trillion yuan by 2025, accounting for 65% of the prefabricated building market, driving the standardization and modularization of residential industrialization.

4. Typical Application Scenarios

Widely used in exterior wall projects for residential and commercial buildings, especially suitable for large-scale projects such as high-rise buildings and affordable housing. For example, double-sided composite wall panels account for over 70% of passive houses in Germany, achieving efficient energy conservation through prefabricated insulation layers. Fully prefabricated wall panels are used in the rapid construction of core tube structures in super high-rise buildings in Japan.
