How Long Does It Take to Complete a Prefabricated House?

Admin September 18, 2026

The completion time for a prefabricated house typically ranges from a few hours to 2 months, depending on the design complexity, construction method, and scale, but is generally shorter than that of traditional buildings.

I. Significant Differences in Construction Durations Across Different Stages

The core advantage of prefabricated houses lies in the "factory prefabrication + on-site assembly" model, with the construction duration divided into two stages:

  1. Factory Prefabrication Stage: Components such as walls, floors, and roof trusses are produced on an assembly line, usually taking a few days to several weeks to complete, depending on the number of components and factory capacity. For example, prefabricated components for standardized houses may only take 1 week to leave the factory.
  2. On-site Assembly Stage:
    • Lifting and Assembly: If a modular design (such as container-style houses) is adopted, on-site lifting can complete the assembly of the main structure in just 2-4 hours;
    • Main Structure Construction: For non-modular but highly prefabricated houses, the main structure construction may take 14 days;
    • Overall Completion: After including interior and exterior decoration, equipment installation, and other processes, the total construction duration for a 100-square-meter house may extend to 1-2 months.

II. Comparison with Traditional Building Construction Durations

The construction of traditional brick-and-mortar houses involves steps such as foundation pouring, wall building, floor pouring, and roof construction, with each step relying on on-site wet work and being greatly affected by weather conditions, typically taking more than 6 months. Prefabricated houses, on the other hand, avoid the uncertainties of on-site construction through factory standardized production, shortening the construction duration by 50%-80%. For example, a 100-square-meter prefabricated house project took only 1 month to complete the entire process from component production to occupancy, while a traditional house of the same scale required at least 4 months.

III. Key Factors Affecting Construction Duration

  1. Design Complexity: Special-shaped structures or customized designs require the production of non-standard components, which may extend the factory prefabrication cycle;
  2. Construction Scale: The assembly speed of single-story houses is significantly faster than that of multi-story buildings;
  3. On-site Conditions: Factors such as terrain, traffic, and weather may affect the efficiency of component transportation and lifting;
  4. Decoration Standards: High-end decoration projects require an additional 1-2 weeks of construction duration.

It should be noted that cases such as "14 days to complete the main structure construction" or "2 hours of lifting" refer only to the structural part. If electrical, plumbing, and decoration processes are included, the total construction duration still needs to be extended.
