Another Major Move Overseas: Dock Inn Container Hotel Opens in Warnemunde

Admin September 12, 2026

Another big move in overseas container architecture?! In Warnemunde, in northeastern Germany, Dock Inn—a large convenience hotel upgraded from shipping containers—has arrived!

Cruise terminals, port facilities, and shipyards all face the Baltic Sea in Warnemunde. If you visit in summer, you can head to the lively seaside bathing beach there. Warnemunde is where the Warnow River flows into the Baltic. Once only a small fishing village, it is today a beloved tourist resort and seaside spa destination.

Committed to a green, eco-friendly low-carbon lifestyle, Dock Inn has a powder-blue shared-bike parking area right beside the main entrance. Step into the lobby and you find a powder-blue reception desk—complete simple check-in formalities here and you are ready to stay.

Past the reception desk, to the right of the lobby, is Dock Inn's leisure and entertainment area, including a drinks bar. Facilities are complete: mini indoor soccer, table football, retro arcade games, pinball machines, a film screening room, a sauna, an indoor climbing gym, a dedicated lounge-sofa sprawl room, and more.

Guests can eat, drink, and play to their hearts' content in the entertainment area. In bad weather, guests can enjoy themselves inside the "Fritz-Zocker-Kontainer"; the space can also host private gatherings, parties, or film screenings. After a busy day, the spa container room with a sauna—and harbor views—is an ideal place people most enjoy in the evening.

Dock Inn offers guests 64 rooms and 188 beds in total, including several container room types: practical singles, spacious doubles, and practical quadruples.

Double and quadruple rooms are formed by joining two shipping containers. Multi-bed rooms give larger groups more space, so they suit groups of friends traveling together, families with children, youth groups, and more.

As things stand, Europe is a hub for large-scale container architecture, and the technology is quite mature—thanks in part to regulations in many European countries that define container buildings as permanent structures that can hold property rights.
