Yunnan Mobile Smart Toilet
Yunnan Mobile has made significant progress in the construction of smart toilets, covering two main areas: fixed smart public toilets and mobile toilet services.

I. Fixed Smart Public Toilets: Technology Empowerment to Enhance Management Efficiency The first IoT-enabled smart public toilet in Yunnan was installed in the Mengbanaxi Rare Garden Scenic Area in Mangshi, Dehong Prefecture. It relies on 4G networks and NB-IoT IoT technology to establish a multi-dimensional monitoring system:
- Toilet Stall Monitoring: Sensors are used to detect the occupancy status of toilet stalls in real time, with data synchronized to the management platform and entrance display screens. This allows visitors to quickly locate available stalls and reduce queuing times.
- Environmental Monitoring: Integrated air quality sensors (monitoring odor indicators such as ammonia and hydrogen sulfide), temperature and humidity sensors, and lighting sensors dynamically assess the comfort level of the public toilet environment, providing precise cleaning instructions for cleaning staff.
- Footfall Analysis: Based on entry counting devices, usage frequency is tracked, and combined with time-based data to optimize cleaning schedules, avoiding resource waste. All data is visually presented through the "One Mobile Phone for Tourism in Yunnan" platform, allowing visitors to access real-time information via an app or on-site display screens, enabling a fully digitalized process from "finding a toilet - using a toilet - evaluating a toilet".
II. Mobile Toilet Services: Flexible Adaptation to Diverse Scenarios Mobile toilet rental services have been introduced in Kunming and other locations, offering a range of products including single/double-person standalone units, multi-stall modular units, and high-end customized models to meet different scenario needs:
- Standalone Mobile Toilets: Compact and easy to deploy, these are suitable for space-constrained scenarios such as temporary events and construction sites, equipped with basic sewage and ventilation systems.
- Modular Mobile Toilets: These expand the number of stalls through modular assembly, supporting the simultaneous use of more than 10 people, and are commonly seen at large exhibitions and during peak periods in scenic areas.
- High-End Customized Models: These include additional features such as barrier-free facilities, baby care rooms, and smart toilets to enhance the user experience, often used at high-end conferences or commercial events. Some mobile toilet vehicles also have facility upgrade capabilities, such as the installation of air conditioning, fresh air systems, or solar power supply units, and can be flexibly deployed across regions through vehicle scheduling, alleviating the supply-demand imbalance of public toilets in local areas.
III. Technology Integration and Social Value The Yunnan smart toilet project achieves data interconnection between "people - objects - environment" through IoT technology, enhancing the精细化 (meticulous) management level of public toilets while providing convenient services for visitors. The promotion of mobile toilets effectively supplements the coverage gaps of fixed public toilets, significantly improving public health conditions, especially in remote scenic areas or temporary events. In the future, with the introduction of 5G and AI technologies, smart toilets may further realize functions such as intelligent deodorization and automatic cleaning, driving public health facilities towards "unmanned" management.
