What Manufacturers Say About Installing a Sunroom

Admin September 04, 2026

As living standards rise, more people are interested in sunrooms and want one of their own. A sunroom looks simple with minimal materials, but design is quite complex and requires attention to many details. What should you watch for when installing a sunroom? A sunroom manufacturer explains below.

  1. Steel structure

Steel structure construction is the foundation of lightweight sunroom housing. A sunroom manufacturer notes that for projected areas over 20 mÂČ with spans exceeding 3 m, steel structure support is required. Why steel? Quality steel ensures sunroom safety and keeps the entire building stable in strong winds, earthquakes, and other natural disasters.

  2. Floor tile installation

Sunroom floor tiles require care. When planning a garden, tiles need not be perfectly flat—slight channels help retain soil and water. This eco-friendly approach mirrors natural terrain. Lower floor drains at corners slightly to drain excess soil moisture. Lay non-woven fabric on boards to prevent soil from clogging pipes during drainage.

  3. Drainage system

A sunroom manufacturer advises paying attention to drainage when designing sunrooms—pool areas should not be too large. Excess water can leak and harm building safety over time. Design doors and windows for ventilation.

  4. Storage cabinets

Storage cabinets in sunroom design are worthwhile. A sunroom manufacturer notes that when adding corner storage, avoid planting too many nearby plants, and ensure moisture protection for cabinets.

  5. Budget wisely

Sunrooms may seem inexpensive but can be costly. When installing, ensure safety, comfort, and aesthetics while keeping costs reasonable. After site survey, combine owner input with designer and installer collaboration for the final plan. Structural essentials are never reduced for comfort features—such as manual versus remote skylight operation—discuss with the owner. Pay attention to design details.

  1. Plant selection

A sunroom manufacturer advises choosing moisture- and heat-loving plants when growing indoors, because sunrooms have long sunlight hours—especially in Beijing—with generally good sealing.

Sunroom manufacturers also recommend understanding balcony orientation. Direction greatly affects lighting: north-facing balconies get little summer sun; south-facing get the most; east and west get half-day sun. Choose plants accordingly—for south-facing balconies, sun-loving flowers such as jasmine and roses; for east or west, climbing plants such as morning glory; for north-facing, shade-tolerant plants such as asparagus fern and monstera.

Balcony space is limited—often use climbing or trailing plants with parallel vertical or horizontal greening. West-facing balconies receive intense summer sun, so vertical greening works well, forming a plant curtain that blocks direct sun and cools the space. On well-oriented balconies, horizontal greening suits better. Choose form and plants based on specific conditions without affecting living functions.
