What Types of Prefabricated Houses Are There

Admin September 18, 2026

Prefabricated houses mainly include types such as panel-assembled buildings, box-assembled buildings, modular buildings, prefabricated panel houses, container houses, and wooden prefabricated houses.

Panel-assembled buildings: These buildings use prefabricated wall panels and floor slabs as core components. The wall panels and floor slabs are pre-fabricated in the factory and then transported to the construction site for assembly. This type of prefabricated house has certain advantages; it can expand the usable area of the house because its structural form results in relatively thin walls, reducing space occupation. However, it also has some limitations. Due to the high degree of standardization of the components, design flexibility is somewhat restricted, making it difficult to meet some personalized and complex architectural design requirements.

Box-assembled buildings: They construct houses by combining prefabricated functional units. These functional units have completed most of the decoration and equipment installation work in the factory and only require simple splicing at the construction site. This construction method can significantly improve construction speed, with a speed increase of 50% - 70% compared to traditional construction methods. However, it has high requirements for transportation and lifting equipment because the functional units are large in volume and heavy in weight, requiring large transportation vehicles and lifting equipment for transportation and installation.

Modular buildings: The entire building is disassembled into individual independent modules, each of which is manufactured in the factory, including structural, decoration, and equipment aspects. After manufacturing, these modules are transported to the construction site for assembly. Modular buildings have a high degree of standardization and industrialization, ensuring consistency in building quality while also facilitating improved construction efficiency.

Prefabricated panel houses: These houses are constructed using prefabricated panels as the main components. Prefabricated panels are factory-made cement components, available in solid and hollow types. Solid prefabricated panels have high strength and are suitable for parts with high load-bearing requirements; hollow prefabricated panels are relatively lighter, reducing the self-weight of the house while also providing some sound insulation and heat insulation effects.

Container houses: These are residential structures refitted from discarded or new containers. Containers are sturdy, durable, and highly mobile. Through interior decoration and modification, they can meet residential needs. This type of house has a wide range of applications in temporary buildings, emergency housing, and other fields.

Wooden prefabricated houses: These houses use wood as the main material, emphasizing environmental protection and a natural style. Wood is a renewable resource with good thermal insulation properties. At the same time, wooden houses give a warm and natural feeling. Wooden prefabricated houses have some components manufactured in the factory and then transported to the site for assembly, ensuring construction quality and efficiency.
