Two-Bedroom Container House

Admin September 15, 2026

A two-bedroom container house is an innovative residential form that uses containers as the basic modules. Through internal renovations, it plans out two bedrooms and is equipped with other living functional areas.

Spatial Layout

  • Bedrooms: Usually, two independent bedroom spaces are set up to meet the needs of multiple occupants. For example, the container houses used in the Nagoya Asian Games adopted a two-bedroom and one-living-room layout, accommodating three athletes in a single unit. In the Chilean project, there was also a residential design with two bedrooms, one living room, one kitchen, and one bathroom.
  • Living Room: As a public activity area, it is relatively independent from the bedrooms. In the container houses of the Nagoya Asian Games, the living room served as a place for athletes' daily communication and rest. In the residential buildings of the Chilean project, the living room connected various functional areas, facilitating interaction among family members.
  • Kitchen and Bathroom: Some two-bedroom container houses are equipped with a kitchen and a bathroom to fulfill basic living functions. For instance, the residential buildings in the Chilean project were planned with a kitchen and a bathroom to meet the cooking and washing needs of the occupants.

Structural Characteristics

  • Modularity: Using containers as the basic modules, it is convenient for transportation and assembly. For example, the Chilean project adopted 20-foot double-wing expandable containers. During transportation, the spaces on both sides were folded in. After arriving at the site, the wing bodies on both sides were expanded, forming an indoor usable area of about 36 square meters, balancing transportation efficiency and actual usable area.
  • Customizability: Internal design and functional division can be carried out according to different needs. The sizes and layouts of areas such as bedrooms and living rooms can be flexibly adjusted based on factors such as the number of occupants and usage scenarios.

Application Scenarios

  • Temporary Housing: In scenarios such as large-scale events and disaster relief, it serves as a temporary living place. For example, the Nagoya Asian Games used container houses to accommodate athletes and officials. After some disasters occur, container houses can also be quickly erected to provide temporary shelters for the affected people.
  • Long-term Residence: After careful design and renovation, it can also be used as a long-term residence. For example, someone transformed a container into a cozy home and lived in the depths of the forest for a year. There were also two sisters who turned a 12-meter container into a 30-square-meter luxury villa with a terrace.
