Tieli Container House Design

Admin September 17, 2026

The design of container houses in Tieli City needs to take into account the climatic characteristics of northern China, with a focus on enhancing thermal insulation, rust prevention, and structural safety. Through modular combination and multifunctional design, efficient space utilization can be achieved, while approval procedures must be completed and regular maintenance carried out.

I. Structure and Materials Suitable for Northern Climate

In Tieli City, where winters are cold, materials with strong thermal insulation properties should be prioritized. For shell insulation, it is recommended to use polyurethane spraying (thickness ≥ 80mm) or extruded polystyrene board (XPS, thickness ≥ 50mm), combined with a moisture-proof layer to prevent condensation water erosion. If used in the south, rock wool (thickness ≥ 50mm) can be selected to reduce costs. The main structure needs to be enhanced for stability through shear pressing processes, with a load-bearing capacity of up to 10 tons and excellent wind pressure resistance. If stacked for use, a 200mm thick C-shaped steel or I-beam load-bearing beam should be installed on the top of the lower container, and the foundation bearing capacity should be ≥ 150kPa. Rust prevention treatment is crucial. All cutting and welding incisions should be polished and then coated with epoxy primer + topcoat. The repainting cycle is 8-12 years in inland dry areas, shortened to 7-10 years in southern humid areas, and only 3-5 years in coastal areas. The container should be elevated on pile foundations to avoid direct contact with ground moisture.

II. Functional Zoning and Space Optimization Strategies

Using a 40-foot high cube container (12 meters long) as the basic unit, it can be divided into public areas (living room, kitchen, dining room) and private areas (bedroom, bathroom) to reduce noise interference. For small units (e.g., 15㎡), foldable beds, foldable tables, and integrated cabinets can be used to enhance space flexibility. The modular combination form should be selected according to the plot: a linear arrangement is suitable for narrow plots, with rock wool (thickness ≥ 100mm) filled at the connections for insulation. An L-shaped or U-shaped arrangement can enclose a courtyard, with H-shaped steel columns (wall thickness ≥ 8mm) used for reinforcement at the corners. For stacked arrangements, strict load-bearing calculations are required, with upper and lower layers staggered to form a duplex structure. In terms of vertical expansion, lofts or mezzanines (clear height ≥ 1.2 meters) can be set up using the height of the container as storage rooms or children's rooms, with steel-wood structure floor slabs (thickness ≥ 18mm). Built-in storage can be customized in the wall cavity (100-150mm thick) or hooks can be installed in the corrugated board grooves.

III. Lighting, Ventilation, and Aesthetic Enhancement

Lighting design should balance brightness and thermal performance: side windows should be 1.2-1.5 meters wide and 0.9-1.2 meters high, with a lighting coefficient ≥ 1.5%. A 0.6m × 0.9m skylight should be opened on the roof, treated with ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) waterproofing membrane. Low-E insulated glass (5+12A+5) curtain walls should be installed at the ends or combination interfaces. The ventilation system should primarily rely on natural ventilation, with opposite windows designed to create a "cross-ventilation" effect, and a window-to-floor ratio ≥ 0.12. Mechanical assistance can be provided by installing silent exhaust fans (air volume ≥ 150m³/h) or heat recovery ventilation systems to ensure indoor CO₂ concentration is below 1000ppm. Aesthetic enhancement can be achieved through paint spraying, themed murals, cladding, or glass curtain walls to摆脱 (get rid of) the industrial feel. The interior of the container door can be decorated with wood veneer to unify the indoor color tone and design shelves.

IV. Approval, Maintenance, and Cost Control

Before design, the land nature must be confirmed: for rural homesteads, construction approval must be obtained, and structural drawings stamped by an engineer must be provided. Containers cannot be directly erected as permanent residences without approval. Cultivated land and basic farmland are strictly prohibited from construction, and forestry approval is required for forest land. For later maintenance, regular checks of waterproof seals are required, with sealant applied around windows and doors, container joints, and roof gutters, and replaced every 5-7 years. The roof should be cleaned of fallen leaves annually to avoid water accumulation and corrosion of the steel plate. In terms of costs, the renovation cost of a 15㎡ container can be controlled within 110,000 yuan. Two to three containers can be combined to create a 100㎡ single-story layout, meeting family living needs.
