The Best Prefabricated Houses

Admin September 18, 2026

There is no absolute "best" type of prefabricated house, but modular buildings, foldable prefabricated houses, and prefabricated reinforced concrete houses (concrete houses) stand out in different scenarios and can be chosen according to specific needs.

Modular Buildings (Chinese "Prefab Houses")

  • Construction Mode: The building is disassembled into independent modules, with ceilings, floors, plumbing, and electrical wiring manufactured in a factory, and then transported to the construction site for assembly.
  • Advantages: The construction period is significantly shortened by over 60%; quality is controllable, with each module having a detailed "ID card" and steel bar positioning errors measured in millimeters; energy-saving and environmentally friendly, reducing noise, dust, construction waste, and traffic congestion at the construction site; easy to maintain, with a short construction period and a reduction in on-site labor by about 50%. For example, in a public housing project in Shenzhen, Guangdong, five residential buildings nearly 100 meters high were assembled from 6,028 concrete modules, with the completion and delivery period reduced from 2.5 to 3 years to just 1 year.
  • Suitable Scenarios: Suitable for projects with tight deadlines, high-quality requirements, and environmental protection considerations, such as public housing construction.

Foldable Prefabricated Houses

  • Construction Mode: All interior finishes and system integrations are completed in the factory, and the house can be folded and packed into a container for transportation, then quickly unfolded and used on-site.
  • Advantages: Easy installation; for example, a 73-square-meter, fully furnished, two-bedroom prefabricated house purchased online by an American couple only required unfolding on-site and connecting to water and electricity for immediate occupancy; low cost and short construction period; in some areas, they may be classified as temporary buildings due to the lack of a poured foundation, potentially exempting them from property taxes.
  • Suitable Scenarios: Increasingly popular in European and American countries facing housing shortages and a shortage of construction workers, suitable for temporary housing needs or scenarios requiring high installation convenience.

Prefabricated Reinforced Concrete Houses (Concrete Houses)

  • Construction Mode: Using prefabricated reinforced concrete modules as the core, core components such as walls, floors, beams, and columns are cast in one piece using high-precision molds at a specialized production base. Each module integrates multiple structures and can be flexibly combined on-site.
  • Advantages: High efficiency, with a single 30㎡ module taking only 7 days to prefabricate in the factory and quick on-site installation; low cost, with a comprehensive cost reduction of 30% compared to traditional brick-and-mortar structures; green and environmentally friendly, with a high recycling rate of off-cuts from factory production and minimal pollution at the construction site; good performance, with high compressive strength, a 40% improvement in thermal insulation, wind resistance up to Level 10, and seismic resistance up to Intensity 7.
  • Suitable Scenarios: Suitable for rural self-built houses and other scenarios with requirements for cost, performance, and environmental protection.
