Temporary Container House Ground

Admin September 14, 2026

The treatment method for the ground of temporary container houses should be determined based on the type of container and the usage scenario. The core principles are to ensure uniform load-bearing, avoid water accumulation hazards, while also considering economic efficiency and compliance.

I. Requirements for the ground of different types of containers

  • Foldable/Fixed Residential Containers: They have relatively low requirements for the foundation. The ground only needs to be leveled for direct placement and use. If conditions permit, a cement floor can be poured and drainage ditches can be set up to improve living comfort and reduce the risk of water accumulation.
  • Packing Containers: The foundation requirements are simple. Strip or pier foundations can be used, and in some cases, no special foundation is needed. They can be directly placed on the ground. However, it is necessary to ensure that the ground is level to avoid local settlement.
  • Residential Portable Panel Houses: They have relatively high requirements for the foundation. A concrete foundation needs to be poured, and the house should be fixed to the foundation with expansion screws. During demolition, the first-floor concrete foundation usually cannot be reused.

II. Core principles of ground treatment

  • Uniform Load-Bearing: The bottom beams of containers are mostly I-beams or channel steels, with limited contact area with the ground. If placed directly on soft soil, local pressure may cause uneven settlement of the container, leading to problems such as deformation of doors and windows and cracks in the walls. Therefore, it is necessary to remove loose soil and debris from the ground and compact the original soil layer to provide a uniform load-bearing foundation.
  • Avoiding Water Accumulation Hazards: In extreme weather conditions such as heavy rain, the ground needs to have good drainage capacity to prevent water from seeping into the interior of the container and damaging the electrical circuits or structure. Pouring a cement floor and setting up drainage ditches are effective solutions.

III. Ground treatment requirements in special scenarios

  • Field Construction Scenarios: In areas with complex geological conditions such as Chengdu, containers with seismic resistance should be selected, and the ground should be level and solid to adapt to complex environments such as wild mountainous areas.
  • Temporary Usage Scenarios: If the container is only used for temporary storage of agricultural materials and tools, and does not damage the plow layer, is not connected to water and electricity, and does not involve traditional foundation construction, the ground treatment can be relatively simple, and may even not require hardening. However, it is necessary to avoid hardening the ground or building permanent foundations to prevent being identified as illegal construction.
