Renovation of Mobile Toilets in Taihu County
Taihu County has implemented diverse measures for the renovation of mobile toilets in different regions, covering various aspects such as planning, construction, management, and supervision.
In areas such as the west bank of the Changhe River and the Changhe Third Bridge section, as development and construction have transformed these areas into important sightseeing and leisure spots, there is a lack of public toilets. County CPPCC member Zhang Panlin proposed suggestions. In the short term, mobile toilets should be installed at locations such as park entrances, along major footpaths, and around squares, taking into account factors such as pedestrian traffic, topography, and the surrounding environment, while maintaining an appropriate distance from the riverbank scenery. In terms of long-term planning, efforts should be made to strengthen the planning of public infrastructure on both sides of the Changhe River, incorporating toilet construction into it and building them according to tourist toilet standards. At the same time, management and maintenance work should be carried out well, integrating toilet management and cleaning responsibilities into the scope of environmental sanitation management in the old town, and arranging for dedicated personnel to clean and regularly disinfect them.
The renovation of mobile toilets in rural areas is also being comprehensively promoted. On May 29, 2026, the Taihu County Agriculture and Rural Affairs Bureau held a business training meeting on rural household toilet renovation across the county, with over 200 participants including responsible persons and business personnel from 15 townships. The meeting clarified the principles of toilet renovation, emphasized the need to reverse the tendency of focusing on construction while neglecting management and maintenance, accelerated the improvement of the "one center, two systems", interpreted the work plan, and adopted a teaching mode combining theoretical instruction with on-site practical operations. Participants who passed the exam obtained construction certificates and were qualified to work. On April 26, 2024, the 2024 Rural Toilet Renovation Work Promotion Meeting in Taihu County was held in Xiaochi Town, with nearly 40 participants attending specialized training, visiting toilet renovation sites in Xinhua Village, observing the sanitary toilet renovation service station in Xiaochi Town. The meeting conveyed spirits, interpreted acceptance methods, explained construction details, exchanged experiences, and put forward requirements and arrangements for the work. In addition, the Taihu County Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision has taken the rural toilet renovation work as an important focus of supervision in the field of people's livelihood, establishing a three-tier supervision system, going deep into construction sites, focusing on key links, seriously investigating and dealing with problems, and urging rectification to promote the establishment of a long-term management and maintenance mechanism. The County Agriculture and Rural Affairs Bureau has promoted toilet renovation policies and management and maintenance knowledge through both online and offline channels. Since 2025, the rural household toilet renovation project in the county has benefited more than 4,000 farming households.
