How About Rural Prefabricated Houses

Admin September 18, 2026

Rural prefabricated houses have both advantages and disadvantages, and a choice should be made based on actual needs.

Advantages

  • Short construction period: Rural prefabricated houses are built by assembling prefabricated components, which can significantly shorten the construction time. For example, in general, the main structure can be completed in 14 days. In rural areas of Henan, prefabricated houses perform even more outstandingly, with a villa being built in as fast as 4 hours, and more complex buildings taking only about 2 days to complete. This can quickly meet the housing needs of rural families in urgent need of housing.
  • Lower cost: They have certain cost advantages. In rural areas of Henan, a prefabricated house costs only a little over 300 yuan per square meter, and an ordinary prefabricated house costs around 200,000 yuan. Although the price is not much different from that of self-built houses in rural China, it offers high cost-effectiveness for European and American countries, allowing for savings in housing construction funds.
  • Good earthquake resistance: If the prefabricated components are from regular companies and assembled by professionals, rural prefabricated houses have relatively good earthquake resistance. In the event of natural disasters such as earthquakes, they can provide relatively safe protection for occupants.

Disadvantages

  • Limited personalization in spatial layout: Due to a high degree of modularization, rural prefabricated houses find it difficult to handle details in spatial layout, and the level of personalization in the layout of regional functions and dimensions is relatively low, which may not fully meet the diverse needs of occupants for the internal space of the house.
  • Poor wall sound insulation and thermal insulation: Their walls are relatively thin. In cold regions, separate thermal insulation treatment is required; otherwise, it is difficult to ensure a suitable indoor temperature. At the same time, the sound insulation effect of the walls is not very good, which may affect living comfort.
  • Poor connection and fixation: Rural construction teams may have difficulty solving the problem of grout joints for connections. The impact is relatively small for low-rise houses, but it can be dangerous for buildings of three stories or more. Moreover, there are gaps during the assembly process, and cracks are prone to appear at the joints of prefabricated panels, affecting the overall quality and safety of the house.
  • Quality issues: Compared with better self-built houses in rural China, rural prefabricated houses have slightly poorer structural stability. The module connections are prone to cracking and water leakage, and they are not as sturdy and durable as houses built brick by brick. They are mostly used as transitional housing and are more commonly used in places such as construction sites.
