How to Make Rural Mobile Toilets

Admin October 07, 2026

Rural mobile toilets can be handmade using materials such as water storage tanks, pallets, or water storage barrels, or they can be produced through a standardized customization process. Here are the specific methods:

Handmade Methods

Making with Water Storage Tanks and Pallets:

  1. Basic Frame Construction: Fix universal wheels at the four corners of the pallet bottom for easy mobility; place a water storage tank recovered from a garbage station as the main structure.
  2. Tank Modification: Use an angle grinder to cut along the marked line on the top of the water storage tank to form an open tank. Invert another open-top water storage tank and stack it on top of the first one. Fix the outer frame with self-tapping screws to form a double-layer structure.
  3. Functional Module Installation:
    • Entrance and Interior Structure: Cut a rectangular opening as the doorway. Make a hole in the floor inside the water storage tank, insert an elbow, and connect a water pipe for sealing. Install a toilet and fix it. Fix water pipes on the wall with clamps, install a faucet and pipe caps, connect the drain pipe outlet, and fix a stainless steel basin as a handwashing basin.
    • Sanitary Facilities: Connect the water inlet pipe of the toilet tank and the shower hose, install a shower bracket and toilet seat, and install a showerhead made of water pipes.
    • Door Making: Fix hinges on the frame of the water storage tank, connect wooden boards to form a door, and install a door handle.

Making with Water Storage Barrels:

  1. Barrel Division and Frame: Use an angle grinder to split the water storage barrel in half. Fix universal wheels at the four corners of a wooden board. Fix wooden strips on the upper side of the barrel with self-tapping screws to increase the height.
  2. Structural Modification: Make an opening on the side of the water storage barrel as the doorway. Install sponge strips on both sides of the doorway to form a door frame and insert plastic soft boards to form an elevated wall. Place the upper half of the water storage barrel on top of the wooden strips to form a roof. Paint the wooden strips with white waterproof paint.
  3. Functional Module Installation:
    • Simple Door and Drainage: Use foam strips to splice discarded honeycomb wooden boards to make a simple door. Make a hole at the bottom of the barrel and install a drain pipe to form a floor drain. Make holes on the side and bottom of the barrel, connect direct joints, and place a plastic barrel on the roof to form a small water storage device.
    • Sanitary Facilities: Connect a bathroom heater made of water pipes, install a three-way joint below the water inlet pipe and connect a shower, place a toilet and install a tank, fix the toilet with glass glue, and connect the drain pipe to the sewage barrel.
    • Handwashing Basin Setting: Connect a water pipe horizontally from the three-way joint of the outlet pipe to the doorway as the water inlet pipe of the handwashing basin. Connect external joints and hoses, and make a hole in the door to install the joints.

Standardized Customization Process

  1. Requirement Analysis: Clarify the usage location, estimated number of users, usage frequency, etc.
  2. Plan Design: Determine the toilet size, structure, and material selection, considering functions such as ventilation, lighting, and odor control, as well as user comfort.
  3. Material Selection: Commonly used materials include steel, plastic, and composite materials, which need to be durable, corrosion-resistant, and easy to clean, and suitable for rural outdoor climate conditions.
  4. Production and Manufacturing: Cut, weld, and assemble according to the design plan, and strictly control the quality.
  5. Installation and Maintenance: After being transported to the usage location, fix and connect the water and electricity. After being put into use, clean it regularly, check the structure, clean up dirt, and replenish consumables.
