Quzhou Container House Specifications

Admin September 10, 2026

Quzhou container house specifications mainly fall into two categories: standard sizes and non-standard custom sizes.

Standard-size container houses are typically based on International Organization for Standardization (ISO) container specifications, most commonly 20-foot and 40-foot types. A 20-foot container house has standard external dimensions of 6.06 m long, 2.44 m wide, and 2.59 m high (standard height) or 2.89 m (high cube), with an internal volume of about 33 cubic meters. A 40-foot container house measures 12.19 m long and 2.44 m wide externally, with the same two height options of 2.59 m and 2.89 m, and an internal volume of about 67 cubic meters. A simplified standard size commonly used in the Quzhou area is 6 m long, 3 m wide, and 2.8 m high (building area about 18 m²). This specification is close to the ISO 20-foot container size, but the width is slightly adjusted to suit building needs. Standard container houses were originally designed for ocean shipping and stacking, so they offer high structural strength and dimensional uniformity. When used for living, however, wall insulation thickness (about 10-15 cm) must be deducted, so usable interior space is slightly smaller than the theoretical value.

Non-standard custom-size container houses are flexibly adjusted to specific needs, mainly through three approaches:

  • Widened design: While keeping standard length and height, the box width is extended to 2.5 m or 3 m. Note transport width limits (usually no more than 3 m); otherwise a special transport plan is required.
  • Height extension: Vertical space is increased by raising the box or stacking two layers—for example, lifting the standard height from 2.8 m to 3.5 m, or stacking two containers to form a duplex structure.
  • Length combination: Multiple containers are joined laterally to form continuous spaces of 8 m, 12 m, or even longer, suitable for large-span layouts such as offices or public activity areas.

The advantage of non-standard custom sizes is better matching of site conditions and functional needs, but structural stability, transport limits, and higher costs must also be considered. Whether standard or custom, Quzhou container houses center on modular design, balancing mobility with building functionality.
