Admin October 07, 2026

Pudong New Area has carried out renovation and upgrading of sanitation mobile toilets, covering procurement and updating, renovation and upgrading, as well as age-friendly and child-friendly modifications.

I. Procurement and Updating of Mobile Public Toilets
In 2024, Pudong New Area implemented a mobile public toilet renovation project, updating seven mobile public toilets located at Puyi Road and Pu'ao Road, Yongtai Road 572 Bus Stop, and Dongsan Street and Jiaonan Road, among others. The newly procured mobile public toilets feature separate male and female restrooms, as well as a dedicated third restroom and barrier-free access to meet the needs of different groups. The project has a total investment of 2.485 million yuan, aiming to enhance convenience and safety through hardware upgrades.

II. Renovation and Upgrading of Some Mobile Public Toilets
Seven mobile public toilets located at Haitong Road and Meihua Road, Century Avenue and Weifang Road, and Zhangyang Road and Miaopu Road have undergone renovation and upgrading. The updated toilets emphasize harmonious and aesthetically pleasing exteriors, using soft tones such as light beige and light brown as the base, and adding barrier-free access and stainless steel handrails. The convenience design has been refined, with well-equipped ordinary restrooms, creating 'age-friendly and child-friendly restrooms' with electronic screens on restroom doors displaying real-time usage status. Focusing on sanitation workers' welfare, some toilets have added 'Sanitation Workers' Rest Stops' equipped with refrigerators, shower rooms, microwaves, charging ports, and other facilities to provide rest support for sanitation workers.

III. Age-Friendly and Child-Friendly Modifications of Sanitation Public Toilets
Since 2023, Shanghai has listed 'age-friendly and child-friendly modifications of sanitation public toilets' as a practical project for the people, and Pudong New Area has actively responded. To date, 515 sanitation public toilets have been modified, accounting for 70% of the total in the district. The modifications focus on four major categories and 30 details, including 'safe passage, assisted walking, independent toileting, and service optimization.' This includes installing barrier-free handrails for the elderly, laying anti-slip floor tiles, optimizing lighting, setting up low-level sinks and child-sized toilets for children, and adding anti-collision corner guards. Before the modifications, opinions were solicited through symposiums or visits and surveys, and 'one plan per toilet' was formulated based on the actual conditions of different toilets to ensure that the modifications meet practical needs.
