Prospects of Prefabricated Housing

Admin September 18, 2026

Prefabricated housing (modular construction) has broad prospects, with significant market potential and development advantages.

I. Continuous Growth of Market Size
The global modular construction market is showing strong growth momentum. It is predicted that the global market size will exceed $142.8 billion by 2030. As a major participant, China has nearly tripled its prefabricated building exports from 2015 to 2025, with a growth rate of 45% in the first quarter of 2026, accounting for 12.3% of the global market and ranking among the top in the world. This trend indicates that modular construction has become an important growth point in the global construction industry.

II. Mature Technology and Industrial Support
Modular construction reduces construction time by more than 60% through parallel operations, automated vertical warehouses, and intelligent production lines. Continuous breakthroughs in prefabricated concrete technology have enabled relevant enterprises to complete projects such as exterior wall panels for public buildings and stadium stands, and to develop a prefabricated shear wall residential structural system with Chinese characteristics. The improvement in technological maturity and the perfection of the industrial chain provide a solid foundation for large-scale applications.

III. Diversified Expansion of Application Scenarios
Modular construction has broken through the traditional residential sector and is widely applicable in scenarios such as hotels, apartments, dormitories, office buildings, hospitals, and data centers. For example, a British merchant purchased Chinese modular elderly care apartments, with 63 modules completed and installed on-site within two weeks; after the initial delivery of a hotel project in Papua New Guinea, the owner continued to place additional orders. Its flexibility and rapid deployment capabilities make it the preferred solution for emergency buildings and temporary facilities.

IV. Dual Drivers of Policy and Demand
The renovation of old urban residential communities in China provides opportunities for prefabricated buildings, with the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development setting a clear goal to complete the renovation of communities built before 2000 by the end of 2025. In overseas markets, high land costs and rising traditional construction costs are driving customers to choose more cost-effective Chinese modular buildings. The combination of policy support and market demand accelerates industry expansion.

V. Significant Export Advantages
Chinese modular buildings are exported in the form of 'industrial products', with high integration levels and only about 10% of on-site work required, resulting in a short and certain cost recovery period. This model reduces risks for overseas customers, winning continuous repurchase recognition and further consolidating China's leading position in the global market.
