Renovation of Large Terrace in Prefabricated Slab House

Admin September 19, 2026

The renovation of a large terrace in a prefabricated slab house requires comprehensive consideration from aspects such as materials, construction, design, safety protection, and maintenance. Here are the specific key points:

Material Selection: Cement prefabricated slabs are an excellent choice for building terraces. They have high strength and good durability, with compressive and flexural strengths that can meet the requirements of large loads. They have excellent weather resistance, are not easily eroded by wind and rain, and have a long service life. Their standardized dimensions make installation convenient, saving time and labor costs. They also possess excellent fire resistance.

Construction Precautions:

  • Foundation Treatment: Ensure that the terrace foundation is flat and solid to prevent uneven settlement and provide a stable foundation for subsequent construction.
  • Waterproofing Measures: Before laying the prefabricated slabs, carry out proper waterproofing layer treatment. You can completely repave self-made torch-applied membrane waterproofing as the bottom base layer or use flexible waterproof coatings. Apply two or three coats on the terrace floor and the base of the wall corners, allowing each coat to dry thoroughly before applying the next one, and add a layer of cement mortar protective layer on the waterproofing layer.
  • Drainage Treatment: Reserve a slope of at least three percent during floor construction to allow rainwater to flow smoothly to the floor drain. Choose high-flow deep-seal floor drains to avoid poor drainage.
  • Joint Treatment: Fill the joints between the slabs with waterproof materials to ensure tightness and prevent water seepage.

Renovation Designs:

  • Practical Design: Transform the terrace into a sunroom using broken-bridge aluminum and tempered glass structures. This can provide shelter from wind and rain, allow you to bask in the sun in winter, and accommodate a washing machine and dryer for convenient clothes drying.
  • Garden Design: Purchase flowers such as roses and hydrangeas, build flower beds along the inner side of the terrace, decorate with anti-corrosion wood, and lay pebbles. If there is enough space, place an outdoor dining table for leisurely dining. You can also ask a mason to build flower beds with red bricks, install drainage boards and root-blocking waterproof layers inside, pave the floor with matte anti-slip cement boards, and install outdoor seats on the sides of the flower beds. In the split-level space, use wooden keels to elevate the area, lay anti-slip PVC 'decks', and make wooden flower boxes with anti-corrosion wood.

Safety Protection: If the height of the terrace guardrail is insufficient, be sure to install an invisible protective net or raise the guardrail, especially for families with children, to ensure safety.

Maintenance: Regularly check the surface of the prefabricated slabs for cracks or damage and repair them in a timely manner. When cleaning, avoid using strong acid or alkali cleaners to prevent corrosion of the cement surface.
