Prefabricated Panels for New House Construction
There are various considerations when using prefabricated panels for new house construction, and caution is advised.

Prefabricated panel houses are structures built primarily with prefabricated panels, which are factory-made cement components available in solid and hollow types. However, existing prefabricated panel houses have numerous issues. Firstly, weak earthquake resistance: In the event of natural disasters like earthquakes, the structure of prefabricated panel houses struggles to effectively resist seismic forces, making them prone to collapse and posing a serious threat to the safety of occupants. Secondly, poor sound and thermal insulation: The walls and floors of prefabricated panel houses have inadequate sound and thermal insulation properties. External noise can easily penetrate indoors, affecting the quality of life for occupants. Additionally, in summer, indoor heat escapes easily, while in winter, it is difficult to maintain warmth, leading to increased energy consumption. Thirdly, limited service life: The service life of prefabricated panel houses is approximately 30 - 50 years. Over time, the structure of the house is prone to aging and damage, requiring regular maintenance and reinforcement.
In rural self-built houses, the use of prefabricated panels also has some drawbacks. The panels are placed on both sides of the walls, and even with the addition of a ring beam, their structural stability is far inferior to that of a house where the ring beam and floor are poured together. Moreover, the seams in the middle of the prefabricated panels are particularly prone to cracking and leaking, affecting the normal use of the house. Additionally, the sound insulation effect of prefabricated panel houses is poor, with activities on the upper floor being clearly audible, causing inconvenience to occupants.
With the development of construction technology, cast-in-place concrete and prefabricated buildings are gradually replacing traditional prefabricated panel houses. Prefabricated buildings use modular factory-made components. For example, CMC combined modular buildings enhance earthquake resistance through steel-concrete integral pouring, reducing the construction period by 30% compared to traditional methods. At the same time, since 2022, China has implemented a policy of renovating old buildings, focusing on repairing and upgrading prefabricated panel houses and only demolishing those that meet the criteria for dangerous buildings. Some regions have already initiated demolition work. Therefore, when constructing new houses, it is essential to fully consider the advantages and disadvantages of prefabricated panels and choose appropriate construction methods and materials based on the actual situation.
