Air Conditioner Installation in Prefabricated Panel Houses

Admin September 18, 2026

The installation of air conditioners in prefabricated panel houses requires careful handling based on specific circumstances, as different types of air conditioners have varying installation requirements.

Installation of Outdoor Units for Ordinary Air Conditioners

In principle, it is not advisable to directly hang the outdoor unit of an air conditioner on a prefabricated panel, especially for older houses. The weight of an air conditioner outdoor unit typically ranges from 60 to 150 kilograms, and it generates continuous vibrations and wind loads during operation. The standard safety live load for residential prefabricated panels is usually only 200 kilograms per square meter, and a commonly sized panel has a safe load-bearing capacity of about 300 kilograms. Long-term exposure to dynamic loads can easily lead to structural cracking or even the fall of the outdoor unit. If installation on an outdoor cement prefabricated panel is unavoidable, expansion bolts must be used to secure the unit, enhancing the connection strength between the outdoor unit and the installation surface. This prevents loosening due to wind, temperature changes, and other factors, ensuring the stability of the outdoor unit during operation, reducing various issues caused by vibrations, and improving equipment safety. However, before installation, it is essential to consult the property service company, submit a written application to the property, provide documents such as property ownership proof, air conditioner model, and outdoor unit dimensions, and have the property coordinate with professionals for assessment. Professional structural assessment is an absolute prerequisite, and a qualified structural engineer must be hired for the evaluation.

Installation of Central Air Conditioning

The installation of central air conditioning is not inherently affected by the fact that a house is made of prefabricated panels. As long as the house has suitable space and power supply, central air conditioning can be installed. However, the following points should be noted:

  • Space Requirements: Central air conditioning requires the installation of outdoor and indoor units on the roof or walls of the house, so sufficient space must be reserved to accommodate these units. If space is limited, the installation of a small split air conditioner can be considered.
  • Power Supply: Central air conditioning requires a relatively large power supply, so the safety and stability of the electrical circuit must be ensured, and reasonable wiring design should be carried out in advance.
  • Material Selection: Since the construction materials of prefabricated panel houses differ from those of traditional houses, suitable materials must be selected for installation. Additionally, the load-bearing capacity of the walls must be considered during construction to ensure the stability and safety of the installation.

Installation of Ceiling-Mounted Air Conditioners

Ceiling-mounted air conditioners can be installed, but it is important to ensure that the prefabricated panels are of good quality, with sufficient strength and rigidity to firmly support the installed air conditioner. During installation, attention should be paid to the weight of the air conditioner and the quality of the prefabricated panels to ensure that the air conditioner does not damage the panels due to excessive weight. Additionally, the installation location of the air conditioner should be chosen to avoid interfering with the normal operation of other equipment, and the installation method should ensure that the air conditioner is firmly mounted on the prefabricated panels. After installation, regular inspections of the air conditioner's installation should be conducted to ensure its normal operation.
