Seismic Test of Prefabricated Houses

Admin September 18, 2026

The seismic test of prefabricated houses is mainly conducted by simulating ground motion on a seismic test platform to evaluate their seismic performance in accordance with relevant standards.

Test Method

The core of the seismic test for prefabricated houses is to carry out simulated ground motion tests on a seismic test platform. The platform simulates ground motion based on seismic wave parameters specified by national regulations. These parameters cover key characteristics such as the frequency and amplitude of seismic waves, enabling a relatively realistic reproduction of the dynamic environment during an earthquake. During the test, parameters such as acceleration, velocity, and displacement on the test platform are recorded in detail. These parameters serve as important bases for evaluating the seismic performance of prefabricated houses, as they can directly reflect the motion state of the houses under seismic action.

Evaluation Criteria

The evaluation of test results primarily refers to the "Code for Seismic Design of Buildings" GB 50011 - 2010, with a rich variety of evaluation contents. Seismic displacement angle: It reflects the ratio of the displacement of a house under seismic action to its height and is an important indicator for measuring the deformation capacity of the house. Seismic capacity index: Used to evaluate the ability of a house to withstand seismic forces, ensuring that the house will not be damaged due to excessive forces during an earthquake. Period: The vibration period of a house and the period of seismic waves interact with each other. By analyzing the period, the vibration characteristics of the house during an earthquake can be understood. Crack control performance: Focuses on the occurrence and development of cracks in a house under seismic action. The appearance and development of cracks can affect the structural safety and serviceability of the house. Displacement limit: Specifies the maximum allowable displacement of a house under seismic action to ensure the overall stability of the house.

Significance of the Test

Through seismic tests, the dynamic responses of prefabricated houses under different seismic waves, such as acceleration, velocity, and displacement parameters, can be obtained. These parameters can comprehensively reflect their seismic performance and evaluate their response ability to earthquakes, including deformation, cracking, and the overall stability of the buildings. For example, relevant studies have verified that prefabricated assembled concrete structures have good seismic performance. Taking the prefabricated concrete sandwich panel structural system as an example, when subjected to strong horizontal seismic loads, the connections between wall panels and between wall panels and floor slabs are crucial. Some studies have shown that dry connections in the form of bolts can provide sufficient strength and stiffness for prefabricated concrete structures to maintain their structural integrity.
