Prefabricated House Roof Insulation

Admin September 18, 2026

Insulation for the roof of a prefabricated house can be achieved by using secondary covering materials on the floor slab or adopting common insulation methods such as pouring, laying, and spraying. Details are as follows:

Secondary Covering Materials on the Floor Slab

In rural areas where prefabricated roofs are commonly used, the insulation performance of prefabricated roofs is generally poor. In summer, the indoor temperature is high, failing to provide heat insulation, and in winter, the indoor temperature is low, failing to provide warmth. Therefore, it is necessary to cover the floor slab with secondary roofing materials to compensate for the basic drawback of poor insulation of the floor slab. Secondary roofing is typically made using slag, lime, and cement. These materials can enhance the roof's thermal insulation performance to a certain extent, reduce heat exchange between the indoors and outdoors, and make the indoor temperature more suitable in both winter and summer.

Common Insulation Methods

  • Pouring (Foam Concrete): Foam concrete is a lightweight, porous material with excellent thermal insulation properties. When poured onto the roof of a prefabricated house, it forms a continuous insulation layer that effectively prevents heat transfer. Moreover, foam concrete has certain strength and durability, can withstand a certain load, and its construction is relatively simple with moderate costs.
  • Laying (Extruded Polystyrene Foam Board): Extruded polystyrene foam board is a highly efficient insulation material with a closed-cell structure and low thermal conductivity, providing significant insulation effects. When laying, the insulation layer should be laid smoothly with tight seams to prevent heat loss through gaps. For layered laying, the seams of the upper and lower layers of the boards should be staggered by half, and the gaps between the layers of the boards should be filled tightly with fragments of the same material to ensure the integrity and insulation performance of the insulation layer.
  • Spraying (Rigid Polyurethane Foam): Rigid polyurethane foam is an insulation material that is sprayed and formed on-site. It can closely bond with the base layer to form a seamless insulation layer, effectively preventing heat transfer. Spraying construction is fast and efficient, and it can be flexibly carried out according to the shape and size of the roof, making it suitable for insulation of prefabricated house roofs with various complex shapes. At the same time, rigid polyurethane foam also has good waterproof performance and can provide certain waterproofing effects.
