Prefabricated Hollow Slab House

Admin September 18, 2026

A prefabricated hollow slab house is a building constructed primarily using prefabricated hollow slabs. The following provides an introduction from the aspects of origin and development, characteristics, application scenarios, and price:

Origin and Development

The prefabricated slab building form originated in the early 20th century. In China, most residential buildings constructed before 1985 adopted this type of structure. With the continuous development of building technology, cast-in-place concrete and prefabricated buildings have gradually replaced traditional prefabricated slab houses. Since 2022, China has implemented a policy of old building renovation, with the main approach for prefabricated slab houses being repair and renovation, and only buildings that meet the criteria for dangerous structures are demolished.

Characteristics

  • Existing prefabricated slab houses: Generally have some problems, such as weak earthquake resistance. When natural disasters like earthquakes occur, the building structure is easily damaged; poor sound insulation and heat insulation, which affect living comfort; and a relatively short service life, approximately 30 - 50 years.
  • Prefabricated prestressed hollow slabs: Have many advantages, including high load-bearing capacity, enabling them to withstand large loads; a large span, which can meet the needs of different building spaces; light self-weight, reducing the overall weight of the building; and good earthquake resistance, improving the safety of the building during earthquakes.
  • Cast-in-place concrete hollow floor systems: Can reduce the structural self-weight, increase the floor stiffness, shorten the construction period, and save floor height. They are suitable for large-span and large-space buildings and also have advantages such as good earthquake resistance, significantly improved sound insulation, heat insulation, and thermal insulation performance, a visually appealing appearance, and the ability to truly achieve flexible space layout.

Application Scenarios

Prefabricated concrete hollow floor slabs are a popular large-span floor slab component widely used in multi-story residential, commercial, educational, medical, and industrial buildings. In bridge engineering, hollow slabs are one of the earliest prefabricated structures used and are widely applied in bridges of various highway grades in China. For example, the upper structure of the original bridge of the Jinma River Bridge in the Chengdu-Wenjiang-Qionglai Expressway expansion project in April 2026 adopted prestressed concrete simply-supported hollow slabs.

Price

The prices of prefabricated hollow floor slabs vary depending on the manufacturer and specifications. For example, the price of a custom concrete hollow slab, prestressed concrete circular hole floor slab, and construction-specific cement prefabricated slab from Zhangqiu Bowen Flower Brick Factory is ¥24.0 (with monthly sales of 25 meters). The price of a 12-centimeter-thick prestressed hollow slab for covering houses, which is a prefabricated floor slab, cement-reinforced concrete sump plate, and trench plate from Jinan Taoqi Building Materials Co., Ltd., is ¥18.0, etc.
