Thickness Requirements for Prefabricated Concrete Houses

Admin September 18, 2026

The thickness requirements for prefabricated concrete houses vary depending on the structural type and usage scenario. Typically, the thickness of prefabricated slabs ranges from 12 to 15 centimeters, while the wall thickness is uniformly 15 centimeters. Thickening is required for high-rise buildings or special scenarios. Here is a detailed analysis:

Prefabricated Slab Thickness
As the main load-bearing component of a house, the thickness of prefabricated slabs directly affects structural safety and durability. Under normal circumstances, the thickness of prefabricated slabs for self-built houses in rural areas or low-rise residential buildings is mostly 12 to 15 centimeters. This thickness can meet daily living needs while also considering economic efficiency. For high-rise residential buildings, due to the need to withstand greater loads, the thickness of prefabricated slabs needs to be increased to 18 to 24 centimeters to enhance structural stability. In special scenarios such as underground garages, where resistance to groundwater pressure and surface vehicle loads is required, the thickness of prefabricated slabs can reach 40 centimeters, which is an extreme case in engineering.

Wall Thickness
The wall thickness of prefabricated concrete houses is usually uniformly 15 centimeters (i.e., 150 millimeters). This standard is based on a balance between building thermal performance and structural strength: a 15-centimeter wall can effectively isolate indoor and outdoor temperature differences, reduce energy consumption, and provide sufficient load-bearing capacity to support the floor and roof structures. If the wall is too thin, it may lead to a decrease in thermal insulation performance or structural deformation; if it is too thick, it will increase material costs and occupy indoor space.

Correlation Between Floor Height and Thickness
Although floor height (customizable from 3 to 3.6 meters) does not directly determine the thickness of walls or prefabricated slabs, it should be noted that an increase in floor height will amplify structural loads, potentially indirectly requiring the thickening of prefabricated slabs or walls. For example, a house with a floor height of 3.6 meters using a 12-centimeter prefabricated slab may need to strengthen beam and column reinforcement or optimize the layout to compensate for insufficient load-bearing capacity.

Design Principles
In actual engineering, the choice of thickness needs to comprehensively consider loads, usage, costs, and regulatory requirements. For example, industrial plants may require thickening of prefabricated slabs due to equipment vibration; houses in cold regions may improve thermal insulation performance by increasing wall thickness. During the design process, it is necessary to determine the final parameters based on standards such as the 'Building Structural Load Code' and professional structural calculations.
