Prefabricated Ancient-Style Houses
Currently, there is no widely recognized and clearly defined architectural type known as 'prefabricated ancient-style houses,' but we can analyze its possible scenarios based on related prefabricated building types.

Situation of Prefabricated Panel Houses
Prefabricated panel houses are structures built primarily with prefabricated panels. They originated in the early 20th century, and many residential buildings constructed in China before 1985 adopted this type of structure. However, prefabricated panel houses have numerous issues. In terms of safety, their earthquake resistance is weak, making it difficult to ensure the safety of occupants during natural disasters such as earthquakes. Regarding living comfort, they have poor sound insulation and thermal insulation, failing to effectively block external noise and heat, which affects the living experience. Moreover, their service life is relatively short, approximately 30 to 50 years. Given these problems, policies in 2026 clearly mandate the establishment of files and dynamic updates for urban C- and D-grade dangerous housing and non-complete housing, accelerating the demolition and renovation of D-grade dangerous housing. Over the next five years, more than 500,000 units (rooms) of C- and D-grade dangerous housing and prefabricated panel houses in urban and county built-up areas are to be renovated.
Other Forms of Prefabricated Houses
In addition to prefabricated panel houses, prefabricated houses also come in three main forms: steel structure, concrete, and wood. Among them, there is a prefabricated wooden house that can be built in three days, offering the advantages of low cost and fast construction. A prefabricated wooden house with a normal living area costs about $20,000 and can also save on labor costs. This is because the wood is pre-processed before leaving the factory, and on-site construction involves assembling the pieces like building blocks, significantly reducing construction time. However, this type of prefabricated wooden house may differ significantly from traditional ancient houses in terms of style, materials, and construction techniques, making it difficult to directly equate it with 'prefabricated ancient-style houses.'
Concept of Prefabricated Ancient-Style Houses
To construct 'prefabricated ancient-style houses,' it is necessary to combine modern prefabrication techniques while preserving the traditional styles and construction techniques of ancient houses. For example, in component fabrication, traditional wood can be used, and traditional mortise-and-tenon joints can be employed to pre-process each component, while modern technology ensures the precision and quality of the components. In terms of transportation and installation, the convenient methods of modern prefabricated buildings can be borrowed, allowing for the rapid assembly of prefabricated components on-site after transportation. However, currently, such 'prefabricated ancient-style houses' have not yet formed a mature industry or been widely applied.
