The Whole Process of Portable Toilets
The whole process of portable toilets includes aspects such as definition and composition, manufacturing process, classification and characteristics, as well as application examples.

I. Definition and Composition A portable toilet is a movable facility designed to meet sanitation needs in both fixed and temporary locations. Its core components include a fecal sewage storage tank (or disposal unit), flooring, sanitary ware (such as toilets), walls, washing facilities (faucets, sinks), water tanks, roofs, and mobility devices (such as casters). Some types are also equipped with sewage treatment systems to adapt to different environmental requirements.
II. Manufacturing Process Taking the renovation of a water storage tank as an example, the manufacturing process is as follows:
- Material Preparation: Recycle a water storage tank as the main body, along with tools such as pallets, casters, and angle grinders.
- Mobility Device Installation: Fix casters at the four corners of the pallet bottom to ensure mobility.
- Tank Processing:
- Cut the top of the water storage tank to create an opening, stack two tanks, and secure the outer frame with self-tapping screws.
- Cut a rectangular opening in the outer frame as a doorway, and simultaneously cut the corresponding part of the tank.
- Drainage System Installation:
- Drill a hole in the tank floor, insert an elbow to connect the water pipe, and seal the gaps.
- Place the toilet and secure it with adhesive, ensuring the drainage outlet is aligned.
- Washing Facility Installation:
- Secure the water pipe and install a faucet, close the bottom with a pipe cap, drill a hole, and fix a stainless steel sink.
- Device Connection: Connect the toilet tank inlet pipe, shower hose, install the shower bracket, toilet seat, and spray-type showerhead.
- Door Manufacturing and Installation: Fix hinges on the tank frame, connect wooden boards to form a door, and install a door handle.
III. Classification and Characteristics
- Classification:
- Structural Form: Single-unit structure (independent unit) and composite structure (multi-unit combination).
- Mobility Method: Hoisting/handling type (requiring mechanical assistance) and powered/towing type (capable of self-movement or towing).
- Sewage Treatment Method: Flush type, non-flush suction type, circulating flush type (water-saving), and dry packing type (no sewage discharge).
- Characteristics:
- Flexibility: Can be quickly deployed to any location as needed and reused multiple times.
- Adaptability: Choose sewage treatment technology based on environmental constraints (e.g., dry packing in arid regions).
- Resource Conservation: Occupies a small area and reduces on-site construction costs through factory prefabrication.
- Aesthetics: The exterior design balances practicality and is commonly seen in public places such as tourist attractions and parks.
IV. Application Examples
- Dalian City: During peak tourist seasons, 14 municipal portable toilets are flexibly deployed to areas with high foot traffic to alleviate sanitation pressure.
- Jinci Scenic Area, Shanxi: During the May Day holiday in 2026, by renovating a bus into a portable men's toilet and temporarily converting fixed men's toilets into women's toilets, the daily reception capacity increased from 3,000 to 5,000 people.
