Portable Toilet for Products

Admin September 20, 2026

A portable toilet is a facility that can be moved as a whole and set up in fixed or temporary locations to provide public restroom services.

Composition and Materials

Portable toilets are generally composed of fecal sewage storage tanks (or fecal sewage treatment devices), floor slabs, sanitary ware, walls, washing equipment, water tanks, roofs, and mobile devices. Initially made from materials like wood, they had simple structures and functions and were prone to absorbing odors. Later, they gradually evolved to use materials such as fiberglass-reinforced plastic and polyethylene, which are more durable and reduce odor absorption.

Classification Methods

  • By structural form: They can be divided into single-structure portable toilets and composite-structure portable toilets. Single-structure toilets are relatively simple and independent, while composite-structure toilets may be composed of multiple parts and have more complex and diverse functions.
  • By mobility method: There are lifting and handling-type portable toilets, which rely on lifting equipment or manual handling for movement; and powered and towed-type portable toilets, which can be moved more conveniently and efficiently using powered devices or vehicles for towing.
  • By sewage treatment method: They are classified into water-flush and waterless suction-type portable toilets. Water-flush types are similar to traditional toilets, using water for flushing, while waterless suction types treat feces through suction. Recirculating water-flush portable toilets recycle flushing water to save water resources, and dry-packing portable toilets pack feces for treatment without using water.

Advantages and Applications

They have advantages such as portability, modularity, and ease of transportation, allowing them to be conveniently transported to any location where toilets need to be installed and can be used repeatedly. They originated from the temporary and periodic demand for toilets in specific situations. Due to the shortage and inadequate layout of public toilets in cities, the government installs them in areas where it is relatively difficult to build fixed public toilets, making up for the deficiencies in the quantity and layout of public toilets. For example, in 2023, portable toilets were gradually installed and put into use in the scenic area along the Yellow River in Lanzhou.

Design Principles

The design should adhere to the principles of mobility and convenience, economic durability; environmental protection and ecological friendliness, and enhancing efficiency and promoting humanity. The overall structure should be lightweight, using lightweight and durable materials as much as possible while ensuring structural robustness. The height and width of the toilet should also be considered during design, and the mobile device should be fully considered for completeness and rationality.
