Renovation Plan for Old Mobile Toilets

Admin October 09, 2026

The renovation of old mobile toilets requires selecting appropriate plans for toilet relocation, space optimization, and drainage adaptation based on specific structures, drainage types, and spatial conditions, while ensuring a reasonable drainage slope to prevent blockages.

Toilet Relocation Plans

Toilet relocation should be carried out using appropriate methods based on the relocation distance:

  • Short-distance relocation (≤200mm): Use an integrated toilet relocator, which has a compact structure, reduces pipe bends, and lowers the risk of blockages.
  • Long-distance relocation (≤500mm): Use an oval flat-pipe relocator and set the slope according to the principle of 'raising the pipe by 5mm for every 100mm of relocation' to ensure smooth sewage discharge.
  • Floor-drain to wall-drain conversion: Connect the toilet's sewage outlet to the adjacent wall's sewage riser to reduce pipe bends and lower the probability of blockages. This plan is suitable for same-floor or inter-floor drainage systems, but requires the construction of a false wall to hide the pipes and can be combined with storage design to improve space utilization.
  • Direct pipe adjustment: For sunken bathrooms, relocation can be achieved by lengthening or shortening the pipes; for inter-floor drainage, if the neighbor agrees, the position of the sewage pipe can be negotiated for modification, but note that the construction difficulty is relatively high.

Space Optimization and Privacy Protection

For small-space toilets (such as those in historic preservation buildings), the following measures can be taken:

  • Relocate idle furniture: Remove or move non-essential furniture such as large wardrobes to make space for toilet installation.
  • Use electric toilets: Solve the problem of sewage pipe installation, especially suitable for scenarios where conventional sewage pipes cannot be installed (such as the case at 1543 Sichuan North Road).
  • Install privacy facilities: Install curtains or partitions to protect user privacy.

Drainage Type Adaptation

Select renovation methods based on the type of drainage system:

  • Same-floor drainage (sunken type): The pipes are located on one's own floor, allowing flexible modifications such as directly adjusting the length or position of the pipes.
  • Inter-floor drainage: It is necessary to raise the floor (when using a relocator) or negotiate with neighbors to modify the sewage pipe. The construction difficulty is relatively high, so prior communication and compliance with regulations are required.

Special Scenario Handling

For historic preservation buildings or street-facing houses where conventional sewage pipes cannot be installed, electric toilets can be selected and the installation path optimized, such as by adjusting the toilet position or using a small sewage lift pump, to ensure smooth sewage discharge. During construction, strict adherence to building preservation regulations is required to avoid damaging the original structure.
