Old Lady Trapped in Mobile Toilet
Admin September 22, 2026
Incidents of elderly people being trapped in toilets occur from time to time, with various causes and different rescue methods depending on the situation.

Causes of Being Trapped
- Physical factors: Some elderly people, due to declining physical functions, such as suffering from constipation and other diseases, may experience general weakness and an inability to stand after squatting in the toilet for a long time, thus getting trapped. For example, 88-year-old Grandma Hu, when living alone at home, was trapped in the bathroom overnight because she was too weak to get up after squatting in the toilet for a long time due to constipation.
- Facility malfunctions: Problems with toilet facilities can also lead to elderly people being trapped. For instance, an over-80-year-old lady in Nanjing was trapped in the toilet at home because the parts of the folding door were rusty due to moisture and couldn't be opened.
- Sudden illnesses: If an elderly person suddenly feels unwell in the toilet, such as collapsing to the ground and having their body block the stall door, it can also result in the door being unable to open and the person being trapped. In the women's toilet of the waiting room at Rizhao West Station, a 71-year-old elderly person was trapped because she suddenly felt unwell and collapsed, blocking the door with her body.
Rescue Methods
- Try conventional methods: After discovering that an elderly person is trapped, you can first try some conventional door-opening methods, such as looking for spare keys and checking if the door lock is malfunctioning. For cases where the person is trapped due to facility malfunctions, if the malfunction is not serious, the door may be opened through simple handling.
- Break the door for rescue: When conventional methods don't work and the elderly person is in a critical situation, breaking the door for rescue is a relatively effective way. For example, after receiving a report of an elderly person being trapped in a public toilet, the police from Chengyang Police Station rushed to the scene, observed the situation, and immediately broke the door to save the person; the police at Rizhao West Station also decisively broke the door to rescue when an elderly person was trapped in the women's toilet due to a sudden illness.
- Seek professional help: If you can't handle it yourself, you should promptly call 110, 120, etc., to seek help from the police and medical staff. The police have professional rescue equipment and experience, and the medical staff can provide timely treatment after the elderly person is rescued.
