Mobile Toilet Renovation: Tile Installation

Admin October 05, 2026

When renovating a mobile toilet with tile installation, it is essential to select appropriate materials and construction methods based on the usage scenario and functional requirements, with a particular focus on slip resistance, durability, and waterproofing.

1. Principles for Selecting Floor Materials

The floor materials for mobile toilets must meet three core requirements: slip resistance, wear resistance, and ease of cleaning. Slip resistance is the primary consideration, especially in areas involving shower functions, where sufficient friction must be ensured even in wet conditions. Anti-slip tiles are recommended, as their surfaces are treated with textured or etched patterns, achieving a static friction coefficient of ≥0.77 and improving slip resistance by more than 2 times when wet. For those seeking a balance between aesthetics and practicality, full-body tiles, rustic tiles, or rough-textured wood-look tiles are ideal choices. These materials combine slip resistance with natural textures, are highly wear-resistant, and can be cleaned easily with just water.

2. Construction Solutions for Different Scenarios

  1. Factory-Prefabricated Type: If the mobile toilet is an integrated unit combining toilet and shower functions and is manufactured using factory-prefabricated processes, tile installation is typically completed beforehand. For on-site installation of such products, only leveling the ground and connecting water and electricity are required before the unit can be put into use, with no additional tile laying necessary.
  2. On-Site Installation Type: For on-site construction, it is crucial to avoid using smooth-surfaced materials such as polished tiles or vitrified tiles, as their friction decreases sharply when wet, increasing the risk of slipping. During tile laying, attention should be paid to joint treatment. It is recommended to use waterproof sealant to fill gaps, preventing moisture penetration that could lead to mold growth in the substrate or tile detachment.

3. Key Construction Details

  • Substrate Preparation: Before tile laying, check the ground for evenness. Any uneven areas should be repaired in advance to prevent tile hollowing.
  • Drainage Slope: The shower area floor should have a 1%-2% slope to ensure rapid drainage of accumulated water toward the floor drain.
  • Slip Resistance Enhancement: Applying an anti-slip agent to the tile surface or using anti-slip stickers can further improve safety in wet conditions.

By selecting materials rationally and following standardized construction practices, tile renovation of mobile toilets can meet functional requirements while ensuring aesthetics and durability, thereby extending their service life.
