Mobile Toilet Odor Treatment

Admin September 24, 2026

Mobile toilet odor treatment can be achieved through physical, chemical, biological methods, and daily tips, as detailed below:

I. Physical Deodorization Methods

  1. Ventilation and Air Exchange
Accelerate air circulation by installing exhaust fans or natural ventilation systems. It is recommended to have at least 10 air exchanges per hour to effectively reduce the concentration of odors such as hydrogen sulfide and ammonia. This method is suitable for larger mobile toilets and requires regular inspection of ventilation equipment operation.
  2. Activated Carbon Adsorption
Select activated carbon with a high iodine value (≥1000mg/g), whose microporous structure can efficiently adsorb odor molecules. Place 1-2 kg of activated carbon per cubic meter of space and replace it monthly to maintain adsorption effectiveness. Note that activated carbon should be kept dry to avoid reduced adsorption efficiency.

II. Chemical Deodorization Methods

  1. Oxidizing Deodorizers
Use a chlorine dioxide (ClO₂) solution with a concentration controlled between 0.1-0.3ppm to achieve deodorization by oxidizing and decomposing mercaptans and amines. It is recommended to spray every 4 hours and is suitable for high-concentration odor environments. However, direct contact with organic matter should be avoided to prevent the formation of by-products.
  2. Masking Deodorizers
Plant essential oil formulations containing limonene or citronellol mask odors through fragrance molecules and are suitable for temporary event venues, lasting approximately 2-3 hours. Note that low-irritant products should be selected to avoid discomfort for sensitive individuals.

III. Biological Deodorization Methods

  1. Composite Microbial Agents
Apply microbial agents containing Bacillus subtilis (≥1×10⁸CFU/g) and nitrifying bacteria to decompose urea in urine and proteins in feces. It is recommended to apply 50g of the agent per 10 liters of excreta, achieving a decomposition efficiency of over 90%. Maintain environmental humidity between 40%-60% to sustain microbial activity.
  2. Biological Enzyme Deodorization System
An immobilized enzyme reactor continuously treats exhaust gases through catalytic reactions, achieving an ammonia removal rate of over 85% with an operating cost of approximately 0.5 yuan per cubic meter. Suitable for large mobile toilets or long-term use scenarios, regular detection of enzyme activity and replenishment of enzyme agents are required.

IV. Daily Deodorization Tips

  1. Mentholatum: Open the lid and place it in a low corner to neutralize odors using menthol components. One box can last for 2-3 months.
  2. Matches: After using the toilet, light a match and fully burn it before discarding it into the toilet. The burning phosphorus can oxidize odor molecules.
  3. Toilet Water: Apply a few drops of toilet water to the light bulb when the power is off. After volatilization, turn on the power to emit a fragrance.
  4. Orange Peels/Lemons: Place dried orange peels or lemon slices in a container to adsorb odors and prevent mold. Replace weekly.
  5. Soap: Open the soap box lid and choose a strongly scented floral soap to mask odors through natural volatilization.
