Mobile Toilets in Jianchuan

Admin September 20, 2026

Jianchuan County has achieved remarkable results in the construction of mobile toilets (smart tourist toilets), enhancing public tourism services through smart management and culturally distinctive designs.

I. Application of Smart Management Platforms

Jianchuan County adheres to the principles of “internationalization, high-end development, distinctiveness, and smart technology,” leveraging the “One Mobile Phone for Tourism in Yunnan” platform to achieve smart management of tourist toilets. Tourists can use their mobile phones to check toilet locations in real-time, obtain navigation routes, and access dynamic information such as stall occupancy, temperature and humidity, air quality, and foot traffic. This data-driven management model optimizes resource allocation, reduces waiting times for tourists, and enhances the user experience. For example, in core scenic areas like Shaxi Ancient Town, the smart system automatically adjusts cleaning frequencies based on foot traffic to ensure cleanliness.

II. Integration of Cultural Features and Architectural Design

In toilet design, Jianchuan County emphasizes the combination of traditional architectural techniques with regional culture. The toilets in Jianchuan Ancient Town adopt Ming and Qing architectural styles, featuring white walls and blue tiles that harmonize with the town’s historical ambiance. In contrast, the toilets in Shaxi Ancient Town incorporate traditional Bai architectural elements, with facades constructed from earth bricks and tiles to evoke the cultural characteristics of the ancient Tea Horse Road caravans. These designs not only meet functional needs but also serve as windows showcasing local culture, deepening tourists’ understanding and appreciation of the region’s history.

III. Modern Facilities and Human-Centric Services

The interiors of the toilets are equipped with smart paper dispensers, hand dryers, touchless hand sanitizer dispensers, and touchless faucets to reduce the risk of contact transmission and improve hygiene standards. Additionally, to cater to the needs of special groups, disabled-accessible stalls and mother-and-child stalls have been set up, complete with barrier-free facilities and baby care stations, reflecting a commitment to human-centric care. For instance, in the core areas of Shibao Mountain and Shaxi Ancient Town, some toilets have also added universal restrooms to further meet diverse needs.

IV. Construction Scale and Distribution

As of the time of reporting, Jianchuan County has constructed a total of 12 to 27 smart tourist toilets in key tourist areas, including Shaxi Ancient Town, Woodcarving Art Town, Jianchuan Ancient Town, and the core areas of Shibao Mountain-Shaxi Ancient Town and Thousand Lions Mountain-Jianchuan Ancient Town. These toilets cover major tourist regions, forming a networked layout that effectively alleviates the problem of “toilet shortages” for tourists and provides infrastructure support for the development of all-for-one tourism.

The practice in Jianchuan County demonstrates that the construction of smart tourist toilets requires a balance between technological empowerment and cultural expression. Through scientific planning and refined operations, it is possible to enhance public service efficiency while strengthening regional cultural identity, offering replicable experiences for the high-quality development of the tourism industry.
