Mobile Toilet Fire Risk

Admin September 23, 2026

Mobile toilets (smart toilets) do indeed pose a fire risk, primarily due to short-circuiting and spontaneous combustion.

From past cases, it is evident that smart toilet fires are not isolated incidents. On August 27, 2023, a smart toilet installed in the bathroom of a household in Chengguan Town, Shibing County, Guizhou Province, caught fire due to short-circuiting and spontaneous combustion. In August 2022, a smart toilet in a residential building in Lishui, Zhejiang Province, also caught fire. On August 5, 2020, a similar incident occurred in a residential building in Guangzhou. These cases all indicate that smart toilets carry a risk of fire caused by short-circuiting during use.

The primary cause of smart toilet fires is short-circuiting and spontaneous combustion. Smart toilets have complex electrical systems, including various functional modules such as heating, flushing, and drying, all of which require electrical power. If there are design flaws in the circuitry, substandard component quality, or if the toilet is subjected to external damage or moisture during use, it can lead to electrical short-circuits. Short-circuits generate a significant amount of heat, which, if not dissipated promptly, can ignite surrounding flammable materials and cause a fire.

To prevent smart toilet fires, consumers should always choose reputable channels when purchasing and opt for products with quality guarantees. Products from reputable sources typically undergo rigorous quality inspections, ensuring reasonable circuit design and reliable component quality, which effectively reduces the risk of short-circuiting and spontaneous combustion. Additionally, do not use smart toilets beyond their recommended lifespan. As the usage time increases, the electrical system of smart toilets gradually ages, and component performance declines, increasing the likelihood of short-circuits. Furthermore, turn off the power to smart toilets when not in use for extended periods. This prevents fires caused by electrical faults when the toilet is unattended.
