Classification of Mobile Toilets

Admin October 10, 2026

The classification of mobile toilets can be divided into four dimensions: mobility method, sewage treatment method, application scenario, and structural form and functional configuration.

By mobility method, mobile toilets can be classified into two types: lifting/handling type and powered/trailer type. The former relies on lifting equipment or manual handling for position transfer and is suitable for short-distance, low-frequency mobility scenarios. The latter achieves autonomous or vehicle-towed movement through built-in power systems (such as engines) or external towing devices and is more suitable for long-distance, high-frequency transportation needs. Both designs aim for flexible deployment as their core objective, but they differ in technical complexity and applicable scenarios.

By sewage treatment method, mobile toilets are divided into three types: flush and non-flush suction type, recirculating flush type, and dry packing type. The flush and non-flush suction type completes waste treatment through high-pressure water or vacuum suction and requires supporting septic tanks or pumping equipment. The recirculating flush type adopts biodegradation or physical filtration technology to achieve water resource recycling and significantly reduces water consumption. The dry packing type uses biodegradable film bags to directly package waste without the need for water throughout the process, making it suitable for water-scarce or environmentally stringent areas. These three technical paths correspond to sanitation needs and resource constraints under different environmental conditions.

By application scenario, mobile toilets are classified into five types: urban public type, tourist attraction type, construction site type, large-scale event type, and emergency disaster relief type. Urban public types require the configuration of barrier-free facilities and intelligent management systems to enhance usability and management efficiency. Tourist attraction types emphasize integration with natural landscapes and are equipped with air purification systems and landscape greening. Construction site types focus on weather resistance and ease of cleaning to adapt to harsh construction environments. Large-scale event types require rapid installation and convenient transportation to meet temporary high-density usage needs. Emergency disaster relief types need to be lightweight, foldable, and have enhanced antibacterial and anti-leakage properties to cope with complex post-disaster environments.

By structural form and functional configuration, mobile toilets include five types: single-unit type, modular type, barrier-free access type, eco-friendly type, and luxury type. The single-unit type is suitable for places with scattered pedestrian traffic and has a compact structure. The modular type forms multi-toilet spaces through modular assembly and can expand facilities such as sinks and urinals. The barrier-free access type meets the usage needs of special populations. The eco-friendly type adopts microbial degradation or recirculating flush technology to achieve zero pollution emissions. The luxury type is equipped with air conditioners, lighting, ventilation fans, and other equipment to enhance user comfort.
