Connection Between Mobile Toilet and Septic Tank

Admin October 11, 2026

The efficient connection between a mobile toilet and a septic tank requires scientific site selection, standardized installation, and regular maintenance. The key steps are as follows:

I. Site Selection and Structural Design

  1. Distance and Terrain: The septic tank should be placed 1.5-5 meters away from the main body of the mobile toilet (adjustable based on the scenario). Priority should be given to areas with higher elevation and smooth drainage to avoid water accumulation or blockage.
  2. Septic Tank Structure: Adopt a three-compartment design (capacity ratio of 2:1:3). The first compartment is used for fecal fermentation, the last compartment stores decomposed fecal liquid, and the middle compartment is separated by a cement board or plastic bucket to enhance decomposition efficiency.

II. Installation Steps

  1. Foundation Pit Treatment: Excavate a foundation pit according to the size of the septic tank. Lay a 10-centimeter-thick gravel cushion at the bottom and compact it to ensure stable placement.
  2. Pipe Connection:
    • Use φ110mm PVC pipes to connect the sewage outlet to the septic tank. Apply waterproof sealant at the joints and wrap with Teflon tape. The angle at bends should be ≥120° to prevent blockage.
    • The inlet and outlet pipes should be reinforced with sealing rings, fixed with glue at the joints, and equipped with anti-backflow valves to prevent odor from returning.
  3. Anti-Settlement and Backfilling:
    • First, backfill 5 centimeters of gravel above the pipes, then compact with yellow soil in layers to avoid local impact causing pipe deformation.
    • Reserve a 50-centimeter inspection port at the top of the septic tank, seal it with a cover, and then cover with soil to prevent rainwater from flowing back.

III. Commissioning and Maintenance

  1. Drainage Test: After installation, open the water inlet valve to observe whether the drainage is smooth and check for any leakage at the joints.
  2. First Use: Empty the impurities in the septic tank and inject 20% clean water to promote the activation of bacterial colonies and accelerate the decomposition of organic matter.
  3. Regular Cleaning: Check the pipe sealability quarterly; it is recommended to clean the sediment in the first compartment every 6-12 months; the fecal liquid in the last compartment can be directly used for fertilization, achieving resource utilization.

IV. Special Scenario Handling

  1. Winter Anti-Freezing: Wrap insulation cotton around the pipes (e.g., in Anyang area) or add straw or foam insulation layers around the septic tank to prevent freezing and cracking.
  2. Air Pressure Balance: For rural simple toilets, extend a ventilation pipe on the roof (higher than the roof by 60 centimeters) to prevent excessive air pressure in the septic tank from causing odor.

V. Material and Tool Preparation

Tools such as shovels, tape measures, and wrenches, as well as accessories such as PVC pipes, elbows, sealing rings, and waterproof sealant, are required to ensure a standardized and reliable installation process.

By following the above steps, an efficient connection between the mobile toilet and the septic tank can be achieved, ensuring long-term stable operation and reducing environmental pollution.
