Mobile Skirt Toilet

Admin September 20, 2026

The concept of the "mobile skirt toilet" is entirely different from that of modern portable toilets. The former was a unique phenomenon among noblewomen in medieval Europe, while the latter are facilities designed to provide public restroom services in modern times.

Mobile Skirt Toilet

In medieval Europe, palaces lacked toilet facilities, and women at the time did not wear underwear. Their enormous skirts, supported by whalebone and weighing dozens of pounds, were completely empty underneath. During court social events, such as grand banquets, when noblewomen needed to relieve themselves, they would use their skirts as cover to excrete in dimly lit corners or similar places. In this context, the skirts served a function similar to that of a mobile toilet. This phenomenon was a product of specific historical circumstances, reflecting certain aspects of court life in medieval Europe and closely related to the social culture and living habits of the time.

Modern Portable Toilet

A modern portable toilet (Portable toilet) is a facility that can be moved as a whole and placed at locations with fixed or temporary needs to provide restroom services to the public and customers. It generally consists of a fecal sewage storage tank (or fecal sewage treatment device), floor, sanitary ware, walls, washing facilities, water tank, roof, and moving device.

In terms of structural form, portable toilets can be divided into single-structure and composite-structure types. According to the method of movement, they can be classified as lifting and handling portable toilets, powered and towed portable toilets. Based on sewage treatment methods, they can be categorized as water-flush and waterless suction portable toilets, circulating water-flush portable toilets, and dry-packing portable toilets.

Modern portable toilets offer numerous advantages, such as mobility, modularity, and ease of transportation. They are suitable for various locations, including stations, docks, and tourist attractions, meeting people's restroom needs in different scenarios and providing great convenience for daily life. They are an indispensable part of modern urban construction and public services.
