What Does Mobile Dry Toilet Mean

Admin October 11, 2026

A mobile dry toilet, also known as a mobile composting toilet, is a sanitary facility that can be flexibly moved and does not require connection to a complex underground sewage system.

I. Structure and Materials Mobile composting toilets are typically made of lightweight materials such as composite panels, fiberglass, or high-strength plastics, making them lightweight and easy to transport. Their structure generally consists of an independent box with a squat toilet or a sit toilet inside and a fecal storage container below. This design allows for quick deployment and disassembly, adapting to the needs of different scenarios.

II. Design Philosophy and Objectives The core design philosophy is “source separation and resource treatment,” with the main objectives being water conservation and environmental pollution prevention. Through specially designed toilets, liquids and solids can be initially separated, reducing the difficulty of subsequent treatment. At the same time, through resource treatment, excreta is converted into usable resources, achieving ecological circulation.

III. Workflow

  1. Initial Separation: Special toilets are used to initially separate liquids and solids.
  2. Adding Covering Materials: After use, users or automatic systems add covering materials such as sawdust, coconut coir, or straw fragments, which are fluffy organic substances. These materials can absorb some moisture, suppress odors, and provide a carbon source for microbial activity.
  3. Microbial Decomposition: Inside the collection box, under suitable conditions, naturally occurring or artificially added thermophilic aerobic microorganisms become active. They decompose organic matter (excreta and covering materials) into carbon dioxide, water vapor, and stable humus.
  4. Product Transformation: After a period of sufficient decomposition, the volume of material in the box significantly decreases, ultimately transforming into humus similar to fertile soil. This product is harmless and odorless and can be returned to nature as a soil amendment, achieving ecological circulation of materials.

IV. Applicable Scenarios Mobile composting toilets are suitable for short-term or temporary use scenarios, such as construction sites, outdoor activities, and temporary markets. They are also suitable for areas with complex terrain or poor soil conditions, such as sandy or rocky areas, where traditional toilets' underground sewage systems may not be supported.
