Making Temporary Portable Toilets
Admin September 21, 2026
There are mainly two methods for making temporary portable toilets: using a water storage barrel and using a water storage tank with a pallet.

Making with a Water Storage Barrel
- Basic Structure Construction: Take a water storage barrel from home and split it in half with an angle grinder. Prepare a wooden board and fix universal wheels at its four corners for easy movement. Attach wooden strips to the upper side of the barrel with self-tapping screws to increase height.
- Wall and Door Frame Construction: Cut an opening on the side of the water storage barrel and install sponge strips on both sides of the opening to form a door frame. Insert plastic soft boards between the wooden strips to create elevated walls. Place the upper half of the water storage barrel on top of the wooden strips as a roof. To enhance aesthetics, paint the wooden strips with white waterproof paint.
- Installation of Supporting Facilities: Use foam strips to拼接 (assemble) discarded honeycomb wooden boards to make a simple door. Cut a hole at the bottom of the barrel and install a drain pipe to form a floor drain. Cut holes on the side and bottom of the plastic barrel and connect them with direct fittings. Place the plastic barrel on the roof to form a small water storage device. Connect the bath heater made of water pipes, install a tee under the water inlet pipe, and connect a showerhead. Place the toilet on the drain pipe opening, install the water tank, and secure it with glass glue. Connect the drain pipe to the sewage tank. Horizontally connect a water pipe to the tee of the outlet pipe and extend it to the door as the inlet pipe for the sink. Cut a hole in the door, install a fitting, and connect a hose.
Making with a Water Storage Tank and a Pallet
- Preparation of the Mobile Base: Fix universal wheels at the four corners of the bottom of the pallet with tools and place a water storage tank recovered from a garbage station on the pallet.
- Tank Processing and Assembly: Use an angle grinder to cut along the marked line on the top of the water storage tank to remove the top and form an open tank. Invert another open-top water storage tank and stack it on the first tank. Fix the outer frames of the two water storage tanks together with self-tapping screws.
- Installation of Internal Facilities: Cut a rectangular opening with a height of 180 cm and a width of 50 cm on the outer frame of the water storage tank and cut the tank body accordingly to form a doorway. Cut a hole in the internal floor of the water storage tank, insert an elbow from the bottom upwards and connect it to a water pipe. Seal the gaps with glue and cut off the excess water pipe. Place the toilet against the drain opening and secure it with glue. Fix a water pipe on the wall clip and install a faucet. Fix a pipe cap with screws under the faucet, connect a water pipe to the pipe cap, and cut a hole as the outlet for the drain pipe. Apply glass glue to the pipe cap and fix a sink made of a stainless steel basin. Connect the water inlet pipe to the toilet water tank, connect the shower hose, and install the shower bracket. Install the toilet seat and a showerhead made of a water pipe.
- Installation of the Door: Bring a wooden board, fix hinges on the frame of the water storage tank, and fix the other side of the hinges to the wooden board to form the door of the toilet. Install a door handle on the door.
