Jixi Rural Renovation Mobile Toilets

Admin October 03, 2026

The mobile toilet renovation in rural areas of Jixi is mainly reflected in the project of moving toilets indoors, which has solved problems such as farmers' difficulties in using toilets, taking baths, and discharging sewage. It has achieved good results in beautifying the rural environment, improving farmers' lives, and promoting green agriculture.

Conditions before renovation: Before the renovation, rural toilets were mostly in a crude form, namely, "a pit, two planks, a three-foot earth wall, and four sides enclosed." These toilets had many problems. In summer, they emitted a foul odor and were infested with flies, with extremely poor sanitary conditions. In rainy days, feces and urine overflowed, not only affecting environmental hygiene but also potentially causing the spread of diseases. In winter, using the toilet was freezing, and the elderly and children were prone to slipping and falling, posing safety hazards.

Changes after renovation: After the renovation, rural toilets have taken on a completely new look, replaced by indoor bathrooms equipped with showerheads, flush toilets, and washbasins. Solar water heaters are also installed on the roofs, providing farmers with the convenience of taking baths. Such renovations have not only improved farmers' quality of life but also enhanced the overall rural environment.

Components of the renovation project: The rural toilet renovation project mainly consists of three parts: outdoor solar water heaters, indoor combined bathrooms, and underground sewage and feces treatment tanks. The solar water heaters are coordinated by township governments with dealers, and farmers can choose and purchase them independently. The indoor bathrooms are constructed by farmers according to the structure of their houses, either by purchasing shower boxes or building them themselves. For the underground sewage collection part, farmers can choose fiberglass anti-seepage sewage wells or brick-concrete structures with anti-seepage cloth, etc.

Renovation funds and pilot situations: In terms of renovation funds, Jixi has explored multiple approaches to minimize the burden on farmers. The cost of rural toilet renovation ranges from several thousand yuan to over ten thousand yuan, depending on farmers' choices and actual conditions. Currently, more than 4,600 rural households in over 100 villages across the city have participated in the pilot project, achieving remarkable results.
