Japan Mobile Toilet and Bathroom
The renovation of mobile toilets or bathrooms in Japan involves various aspects such as location relocation, difficulty level, and costs, and the bathroom design has unique features.

Location Relocation
In Japan, relocating toilets and bathrooms is relatively complex, mainly affected by the slope of drainage pipes. Most drainage pipes are hidden in the pipe space (PS) of apartments or single-family houses. The farther away from the PS, the greater the required slope, often necessitating raising the floor. However, Japanese law stipulates that the average minimum indoor height only needs to be above 2.1 meters, and raising the floor may make the space feel oppressive.
Difficulty Level
Changing the location of a toilet is relatively difficult. Since the sewage drainage pipes are separate, if it is a wall-mounted drainage system, it is basically impossible to move. If it is a floor-mounted drainage system and the floor has a double-layer structure, a slight relocation towards the pipe space (PS) may be possible, but it depends on the drainage location and requires confirmation with the management company. In most cases, wall-mounted drainage systems in apartments cannot be added, and floor-mounted drainage relocations also need confirmation. For single-family houses, changing floors from the first to the second floor is very difficult.
Costs
The cost of adding a toilet ranges from approximately 500,000 to 1,500,000 yen, with specific costs varying depending on factors such as the complexity of the renovation and the materials selected.
Unique Features of Bathroom Design
There are some unique practices in Japanese bathroom design. To increase the toilet area, the sink is often moved outside. This design not only optimizes the spatial layout, making the interior of the toilet more spacious, but also improves usage efficiency. For example, when someone is using the toilet, others can use the sink outside without interference. At the same time, after moving the sink outside, the space below it can also be reasonably utilized for storing cleaning supplies, further enhancing the storage function of the bathroom.
